Default Using same modem router after limited? Please help

Hi,

Do I really need to change the MAC of the modem / router in order to change the IP?

Can I just switch off and on the modem?

I cannot find a way to change my modem router (my modem is has the router as the same device, it is aztech dsl er1000) MAC address in the modem software.

I am using dsl

I did not keep track of IP for my old paypal. I just got my paypal limited and I am not sure what IP that are used when I access the old paypal limited account. How can I avoid clashing the IP that I used to login to the old paypal?

Thanks all.

Most ISP's that use DSL (predominately bellsouth/AT&T) won't change your IP address by simply power cycling your modem. They usually only assign new IP addresses to a new MAC address, so you may have to try spoofing it. I'm not talking about your modem's MAC as that would be nearly impossible unless you have special software or can tap into their hardware, but instead your primary computer's MAC or your router's MAC. I'm unsure if linksys offers this, but I know that DD-WRT (a custom router firmware) offers this option.

To make sure that you don't clash the same IP, just make sure you change it twice or thrice. The chances of you changing back to the same IP should be pretty slim .

Why not just unplug it and plug it back in and see what happens?

What MAC do we actually need to change? My modem router (modem and router is a same device) control panel does not have the MAC options. Now I am confused, there is primary computer's MAC, router's MAC. and modem's MAC?

How do you change MAC? I appreciated if you could explain the steps.

Is it that as long as the last digit changes, I am safe? Now the question is I am not sure what is the IP that I used to login when I got limited, if lets say the IP changes everytime I unplug / restart router, I think I may still get the same IP as the previous times when I login to paypal with the account that was limited.
