Default Is it a router or modem???

My modem/router or whatever the hell it is...says "wireless g adsl router" on it. When i restart it like ebaystealth 3.0 says it changes the IP on IPBurger. So im guessing it works like a modem? The way its set up is that its connected to a phone line and is wireless.

When i check IPBurger after the restart the IP is always different but when i right click on the connection and go to status/support it says this.

Address type: Assigned by DHCP

IP address: 192.168.1.2

subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

default gateway: 192.168.1.254

This infomation is stuck like this. Why is the IP address not the one it says on IPBurger? Does this even have any relevance to the changing of my IP? As long as the IP is different on IPBurger then i am good to go right?

such a bloody newb

PLEASE TELL ME IF I SHOULD REMOVE THE MODEM INFO FOR SECURITY REASONS!???

As long as it i showing a different IP on Ipburger then it has been changed, the "stuck" setting you are looking at are your default setting, something a bit different dont worry about them. As said as long as Ipburger is showing different IP address job is a gud un

Definitions :

Modem: connects u to the Internet with a cable (eg; Ethernet cable)
Router: Connected to a modem via an Ethernet cable which connects you to your devices wirelessly.
Modem/Router: No wires necessary except for main power. Works as a modem and a router

Your router does not change your IP your modem does . A Router will just give wireless connections to your devices and boost signal.

192.168.1.2 is a LAN IP, something only visible on your home network. It is invisible to the Internet.

What you need to change is your WAN IP, that is, the IP address the Internet sees.

Any denominations of 192.168.xxx.xxx is always a LAN IP.

Looks like you did change your WAN IP and you are in the clear for that part of the process

IP burger now shows you the last 5 login IP's and they never ever match my spreadsheet. I use a dongle so I get new one every time. I am still perplexed by it.
