| | | myIonU | 09-29-2008 10:09 PM | 21 days hold question, please help Hi everyone,
Paypal put a 21 days hold on every payment I have been receiving. I ship the item right away to lift the hold faster.
May I ask if paypal decided to limit my account, what would happen to the money on hold?
does the money still being held in my account, or is it automatically returned to the buyer?
thanks so much for your help. |

| myIonU | 09-29-2008 11:50 PM | I did extensive search before posting the question. I just didn't find the answer.
I would be nice if anyone can help me out on this.
thanks. |
| doughboykilla | 09-30-2008 01:25 AM | You get limted paypal says F U and refunds the buyers and your screwed out of item and money.
Best thing is not to play paypals game |
| Burst | 09-30-2008 06:53 AM | Are you working under a personal or premier account? If you upgrade to a business account that problem does not exist I believe.
SWIM had an account that was not business and repeatedly had funds being held until shipped confirmed or 21 days after. SWIM upgraded to a business account and the same payments that were getting held, were coming in without holds. SWIM still had held funds from before they upgraded. But those were cleared later on and SWIM lived happily ever after.
Good story right? |
| divine422 | 09-30-2008 08:28 PM | You dont have to be limited. Once they can confirm delivery you get the funds released. |
| Burst | 09-30-2008 08:47 PM | Three days after delivery you mean.
They still hold it to make sure no claims come up once its been delivered. Theres an easy loophole if youre doing shady items but who is? |
| myIonU | 09-30-2008 10:05 PM | thanks for the help. I'm gonna stop selling for a while to until they release the fund. That way I could reduce my chance of getting my account limited.
May I ask how does paypal confirm delivery? I print usps label from paypal website with delivery confirmation. Do they check delivery automatically?
thanks |
| philly387 | 10-01-2008 12:47 AM | yes that is how paypal checks to see if they received the item. delivery confirmation. |
| aking | 10-01-2008 08:44 AM | it doesnt take 3 days for them to release the funds. I have found it takes approx. 24 hrs from delivery confirmation or when positive feedback is left. It kinda sucks b/c you have to slow down selling until all the money is released.
So I heard upgrading to a business account voids this whole 21 day hold thing? Can anyone confirm or verify this? |
| Burst | 10-01-2008 07:48 PM | Im going to correct SWIMs story. It reduces the amount of holds compared to premier or personal.
Also, Once positive feedback is left funds are released. BUT, if theyre lazy and dont leave it, on the THIRD day after the funds are released. It even says it in Paypals description of the hold. SWIM has also verified this numerous times down to the exact day. |
| x2ruff4u | 10-02-2008 02:31 PM | see I was right something new is going on with paypal. Now they added this to more troubles as it is. I will post some feedback on what I did to might be able to pass it.... |
| myIonU | 10-02-2008 08:49 PM | this would make it very difficult to start new account. You would have to build their trust very slowly.
In my experience, they leave you alone if you have a lot of feedback and long time account |
| Burst | 10-02-2008 09:42 PM | Right but for new people its a ton of hassles. You have to spend your money before you receive your payment days or weeks later. If the buyer isnt up tight or ridiculous, which nowadays, its a good coin toss. |
| Burst | 10-03-2008 07:53 PM | Another thing Im noticing is if the amount is over $100 in certain categories, it seems to always get holds. If its under I havent had an issue yet. |
| x2ruff4u | 10-04-2008 01:05 AM | meh holds on every transaction Im getting now. 1.00 to 50.00 dollars I tryed now.
positive feedback release it but hmmmm....
All tho what is interesting I havnt gotten limited up until now with all the transactions, in fact I gota chek my accounts now n see wuts going on will update. |
| joshb61032 | 10-04-2008 06:45 AM | Paypal holds sometimes, but with me its random, some payments like 100 they hold, some 300 payments they dont. I think its category. i have had a 600.00 payment released automatically and have had to write them about a 200 payment lol!
just get tracking info when u ship, enter it in ebay and paypal, wait 3 days or after you get positive feedback, if it isnt released just write them or call them. |
| divine422 | 10-04-2008 09:26 AM | I have gotten the hold released as soon as it shows delivery confirmation, speak to the person in the limitation department, you will have more clout if you have positive feedback selling the same thing and no priors. |
| gurusgrafx | 10-05-2008 09:03 PM | started using a new account this weekend. (well it was all setup over 6 months ago.) setup as a business account every payment I have received so far is being held. I'm listing in the t shirt category of all places. no high end electronics. t shirts.... average price 15 bucks, its down right retarded. I've been able to beat everything they've thrown at me in the last 8 years but I'm really stuck on this one. |
| aking | 10-05-2008 10:40 PM | yea i don't think there is away around the hold. its weird tho, sometimes they hold and sometimes they don't. I just slows down the amount of items i list. I don't feel comfortable listing more items when i have over $500 still pending release. |
| gurusgrafx | 10-06-2008 12:01 AM | theres no sometimes to it for me its every time. really annoying. can anyone verify that if I refund these people and try to get them to pay off an emailed invoice that paypal will refund the payment? I read some where on here that they refunded and got a neg balance and the original hold was still showing. |
| x2ruff4u | 10-06-2008 12:56 AM | Update: As stated some transactions get released and most like us get held. I hav about 1000 in pending >.>, all tho im worried about limitation since I been having that for some odd reason. Sent tracking information been 5 days now still nothing.
To me it seems like we have to call paypal n tell them what business we do. First things first tho you would probally have to sell more n get more positive feedback. So no accounts that last a month like some people.
Will update with any more information I have. I am constantly trying to find a loop hole here. |
| Burst | 10-06-2008 05:19 AM | Category seems to be right. All of my transactions in one category are being held, while another "which I thought would be more likely to have a higher risk" is going in and out without any problems.
Ebay and Paypal also said that they chose areas to hold, and also if youre under 100 feedback youre going to be on their radar. Just do a search for 21 day hold on google. |
| gurusgrafx | 10-06-2008 09:21 AM | last night I logged into paypal reversed all payments then sent payment requests for the items. Sent emails explaining what was going on and so far one has paid again with no holds. Also added to all my items a rather large note about not making immediate payments and to wait to be invoiced to avoid delays in shipping. Hopefully this will work until we can figure something else out. |
| aking | 10-08-2008 11:43 AM | so if u send invoices out to people you can get around the 21 day hold? Thats damn near impossible for me b/c I am hardly ever around when my auctions end, and the majority of the time, buyers just go ahead and pay. Maybe I will just have to start being at the PC when they end so I can send invoices. |
| Burst | 10-08-2008 05:08 PM | So to thicken the plot I sold my last item that paypal kept holding the funds until delivered. Thinking its going to be that situation again, i go ahead and mail it out. I check my inbox later on and the funds went into my account no problem, no holds or anything! Maybe they see that Im adding tracking numbers within hours of auctions end and getting positive feedback for the items.
All I know is right now I have holds that need to be lifted and they arent, yet the last one made it through without any issues. |
| aking | 10-08-2008 08:18 PM | Well to make the plot a bit thicker, I listed a few items on an account with little feedback points established and had no holds. Tracking numbers put on both ebay and paypal within 30 mins of auction end. I'm thinking Im not going to have the hold problem at all until I list more of the same item, this time holds on almost all the payments, but not all. I cant seem to figure it out, it seems random. |
| myIonU | 10-11-2008 07:47 PM | May I ask when do they stop holding the payment?
After you get a good selling record? over 100 feedback?
They have released all my held payments, but they are stilling holding onto new ones coming in. |
| Burst | 10-12-2008 05:58 AM | This has been answered in the first page of this post. |
| Exeneva | 10-12-2008 11:17 AM | Modee is correct. The question of 21-day holds and how to combat it comes up all too constantly. It's not too hard to find a solution if you think about it for a while. However, I doubt anyone who knows is going to post this in public because if Paypal/eBay caught on, it would not work anymore.
It all goes back to account creation. This is an issue you have to think about BEFORE your account is even made. That's all I'll hint at. |
| doughboykilla | 10-12-2008 12:59 PM | yeah DO NOT POST any info on how to get around the holds there are many spys of both ebay/paypal and pig ebay/paypal snitchs that comes on these fourms just to find out how we get around there system and find fixes for it. |
| Burst | 10-12-2008 01:00 PM | Well for those who still have the issue. Paypal confirmed after positive feedback, it takes 24 hours for the hold to be released. |
| doughboykilla | 10-12-2008 02:29 PM | yeah and after a few sales and good feedback the holds will go away and u wont have that problem no more. |
| philly387 | 10-12-2008 03:23 PM | Would it help if you put funds into your paypal account before you even sold anything? |
| thefuzz73 | 10-13-2008 03:19 PM | ooops sorry nearly let the cat out of the bag |
| Here We Go Again | 10-13-2008 03:51 PM | Yes there are at least 3 different ways around the 21 Day Hold.
I will NOT post any of these ways on this forum.
Nor will I tell them to you in a PM message.
Modee is right.... Modee's Post NO ONE who has figured this out should post it here. DO NOT POST THESE WORK AROUNDS!
Once any of these work arounds gets posted it will not work any longer.
Yes there are eBay/PP spies lurking on this forum.
If you were them wouldn't you be? |

Some go through without any issues though so it makes me wonder why |
| aking | 10-14-2008 12:12 AM | ....sigh.... |
| myIonU | 10-17-2008 01:08 AM | I think they have stopped holding my payment. I maybe have earned their trust, so they no longer need to hold my payment. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 02:24 PM. | |
