Yes, it's a shiitty policy no doubt. But if missing out on transaction fees from refunds is causing your business problems, maybe you need to revamp your business structure/policies.
The fact you don't seem to understand this, shows your lack of business aptitude. This can't be disputed.
UNLESS your are selling clothing, then all bets are off! Those guys are brutal with their returns. Sheesh... | Any high return seller will suffer big time. Will I be fine? Yes, I have 50% margins on 300$ avg sale price products...I do get returns though. That's 10$ or more lost on top of shipping costs already lost...
Also, this will be ripe for abuse. Imagine buying a bunch of stuff from a competitor and returning it... |

Definitely a problem. I don't get into those situations, though, luckily. |
| ebaystealth1974 | 04-03-2019 03:32 PM | Re: May 7, 2019 - AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT USER AGREEMENT I also limit purchases to 1 or 2 per customer every so many days. Helps with abuse. |

We can look at this from different angles.
The part where they don't refund your fees I think that's theft.
What can we all do about it?
The other part is we need to figure out if we get so many returns it must mean the products we ship out are either prone to returns (like clothes) or just straight out bad quality.
So think about this logically rather than yelling at each other. | is it really theft?
They have done their job and earned their fee.
say you hire me to deliver a package to your customer, now the customer returned the item and you want fee back?
I did my job,I earned it so why should I refund you.
the second part is what makes Paypal WITHDRAW this courtesy of full refund of their fee,no more nice guy,we are just bunch of bad sellers and bad buyers . there are just too many returns, refunds and chargeback and disputes |
| x2ruff4u | 04-03-2019 08:57 PM | Re: May 7, 2019 - AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT USER AGREEMENT Give it time until this goes more mainstream and all the facebook, twitters, youtubers get a hold of this and start marching toward Paypal. They'll change their tune and even then I'm shorting them for some easy $. |
| slokor | 04-03-2019 09:38 PM | Re: May 7, 2019 - AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT USER AGREEMENT I doubt any of that will make a difference. Most main streamers are not sellers - theyre buyers - so this has zero impact on them. |
Re: May 7, 2019 - AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT USER AGREEMENT This is Paypal's way of telling sellers you need to ensure you get as few returns as possible. It gives a financial motivation for sellers to take good care of buyers and to make sure the receive what they wanted.
I don't buy the excuse about being a volume seller means you'll get burnt more. Over the many years I've used Paypal as a seller I've never had an item returned or purchase cancelled but as a buyer there have been multiple occasions I've had to raise a case with a seller for various reasons. And I sell more items than I buy. |
| agent006140 | 04-04-2019 08:05 AM | Re: May 7, 2019 - AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT USER AGREEMENT I just returned some items to HO CHI MINH CITY,Vietnam, for item not as described, the seller pays return shipping of $48 US Dollars, she lost 48 plus original shiping of 30 =$78.
When Paypal new policy kicks in,a case like this would cost her another 26.62,total 104.62 for a payment of US$ 605.
The metal used is marked and described as precious metal but it is not .
so,yes, sellers would have to be more diligent when listing and describing the item. |
| BleepBloop | 04-04-2019 11:20 AM | Re: May 7, 2019 - AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT USER AGREEMENT Note that this new refund policy may not be applicable for every country so check yer PP policy update documentation. So far this is only for US accounts. For example, in agent006140's post, Vietnam in does not show this particular refund policy change. |

it should apply to all sellers using Paypal account |

it should apply to all sellers using Paypal account | Could be a territorial thing. Not all PayPal accounts operate alike. ie, some can only buy online and send money for goods and services, some cannot receive money, stuff like that. Maybe in the future, who knows, it will expand to other regions. We'll just have to see. |
| Lucynda | 04-05-2019 03:44 AM | Re: May 7, 2019 - AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT USER AGREEMENT Stripe keeps the fees when I refund the buyer. |
| agent006140 | 04-05-2019 08:07 AM | Re: May 7, 2019 - AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT USER AGREEMENT Nigeria is one,you can only send payment.
you cannot receive money nor link a bank,so where does money come from?
For some countries,it has to do with banking, they dont have a central bank clearance like ours or Canada or UK or EU.
or if they do,it is too costly for Paypal. |

because you think this Paypal no refund policy is a no event | Well, lets take a decent ebay account and make an example out of it.
Lets say their average sale price is $50. And lets also say that they sold $500,000 for the year.(More than most of the people complaining, probably)
Average PP fee is $1.75 per transaction, and total transactions would be 10,000 for the year.
That means $17,500 in PP fees.
Even with a TERRIBLY high refund rate of 5%, you're only out of $875 for the year. Yeahhhh, that's not gonna break me!
Yes, I do understand that it's a bullshiit policy. And people are going to have bullshiit, instant cancellations on high-dollar orders that are going to cost them quite bit. And then there's always the chance of malicious activity with this new policy change. Hopefully they'll have things in place to protect us from things like that... bit I doubt it. |
| agent006140 | 04-05-2019 08:42 AM | Re: May 7, 2019 - AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT USER AGREEMENT most sellers do not sell $500,000 in a year ,many transfer the sales proceeds to their bank account same day and spend it to meet basic needs like paying bills and buying food or medicine.
When Ebay stated that it wont issue any Ebay bucks if it is less than $3,folks were upset as they like to use their Ebay buck to buy on Ebay.
Ebay buyers and sellers are not affluent nor do they have cash or credit to buy $10-20k a month like you do |

Then those people will be hurt even less.
Math is scalable. If they do 10% of those sales ($50,000), then their losses on the same 5% refunds will also be 10% ($87.50). |
