Default Customs question

Hi everyone,

I have a question about customs. I just bought a new laptop and want to send my old one to my friend, whose laptop recently gave out on her. I am in the US and she is in the UK. I consider this to be a gift so will she have to pay customs on it? She doesn't have a lot of money, that's why I'm concerned.

It's a few years old so I also have no idea how much it is worth. I appreciate any help, thank you.

Just mark it as a personal gift - value $15 and she'll be fine

of course that means that you will only be able to claim $15 from the post office if something happens to it.

OK mark it as value $50 and let your friend pay duty - your item=your choice

If you send it as a gift and send it Priority or Express Mail, having them hold it at the Post Office, so she has to come and pick it up, instead of them delivering it, then she should be able to get it no problem. However you send it, have a signature!

I was just saying...

Anyways in Canada anything under $65 is exempt, lucky me I guess.
