Default VAT registering stealth accounts?

Hi all,

If this has been discussed before I'd appreciate a link to the thread :-)

I'm just wondering what people do when they meet the VAT threshold (£85,000) in sales on eBay? Surely adding my VAT registration number to a stealth account will link my accounts?

Any help would be great!

I don't think there's anything you can do at the moment. It is best to keep under the threshold every year so the account keeps going every year. I made the same mistakes with several accounts too now I can't list anything.

I did an experiment by adding a brand new eBay account to a PayPal account that had reached the vat threshold, surprise surprise it's still going strong and it has been about a year now.

Please don't take this as 'official' advise. It isn't supported on this forum at all. It just might be luck so the outcome might be different for you if you try it.

Good luck.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

That's interesting. If I understand you correctly your ebay/paypal account reached the £85,000 threshold and instead of shutting them both down and moving on to a new pair, you stopped using the ebay account but kept the paypal account going?

Is that right?

Yes, that's correct. I attached a new eBay account to the same Paypal.
I think eBay can easily find out - so this is not advisable. I didn't want the PayPal account to rot, so I took the risk.

I have kept sales at £3000 ~ £4000 monthly no more.
