Default Buyer querying used item part not working

I sold a used fishing reel on eBay, got message from buyer saying the level wind on it does not work and there is no ratchet on the wheel. He says the level wind works while turning the reel but as soon as pressure is put on the reel the level wind does not work.

My husband has used it previously and didn't notice any problems with it, or if there were any they did not effect his use of it. I sold the item for a fraction off the price buyer would have had to pay if he bought a brand new one of these reels. So any keen fishing forum members out there what would be your take on this?

Your going to have to let him return the item for a refund unfortunately!

eBay would side with the buyer if it came down to it

It seems like a realistic problem though....

I'm noticing a lot of buyers play games and hope you will refund them. As soon as I tell them to return for refund then there's no problems they claim it's too much of a hassle to return. They are looking for refund or partial refund.

I realised that buyer had a shop so maybe was just looking for cheap purchases to resell, so I readvertised it at a cheaper price and have sold it again, they really are a popular brand, especially if they are being sold at a cheaper price. Will wait to see what happens with this buyer who appears to not have a shop and therefore just be an ordinary fishing type.

Keep in mind, lots of lads are stocking up on cheap gear for their Spring fishing.

Depending on the model of the reel, it may only have needed to be stripped & cleaned.

Hope all goes OK with the return, Rosie.

Cheers Greenie, for the price I have sold it at, compared with the prices of other used fishing reels of the same make, it is an out and out hands down gob stopping bargain! Especially as the prices of the best used reels anything up to 5 or even 6 times the price of mine. That is why I was a little peeved that it was returned at all, especially by a shop owner who new exactly how much he thought he could resell it at.

I did message that first buyer that I could easily get the missing bits replaced on it for him, he said he believed the price of doing that would be ridiculous and wanted to return anyway. I then investigated on eBay for replacement bits, and they were just a few pounds! So will see how things go with it this time round.

Make sure that the new listing states that there was an issue
with it, whatever the first buyer said. That way you won't
have another return.

Final update on this, sold it on a third chance offer, had four bids on out originally so I just started offering it to the other bidders and the third one down bought it and left me good feedback. My husband spoke a friend of his who repairs reels and he said that the faulty bit could have been replaced for less than £1 and the other bit that wasn't working correctly was exactly as it should have been, a little on the loose side!
