| EbayFreak | 04-24-2009 07:38 AM | 21 day Hold news Hello Everybody,
Not only is the 21 day hold trick dead, there is more going on. Hope everybody is happy and really learned his lesson this time, i tried to do the Trick a little more than a week ago with 1 of my ebay transactions a bit over 125$. Nothing happened, so i was waiting for the buyer to leave me feedback, left feedback last Tuesday and normally the money would be released within 24 hours. Now it is Saturday and i still don't have a single $, i called paypal and they told me the next thing: Paypal:Sir,
Did you try to play with our sercurity rules? Ebayfreak:
Me? No not a at all what do you mean. Paypal:
Last months a lot of people found a way around our security system and if i look to your account you did the same thing 2 days after you received this payment. Ebayfreak:
Don't know what you mean, could you please tell me what is going on here. Paypal,
Sorry Sir, for know you will have to wait the full 21 days to get access to the money. We are very sorry but this are the new security rules. Is there anything else i can help you with right now? Ebayfreak:
Yes go and **** yourself( Not really what i told them). Have a great day lady thanks for your help.
What i did was refunded the buyer a amount of 6$, not a cent or anything. So make sure to not try the trick anymore because the ****heads at paypal will keep your money for 21 days, no way around it that is for sure. Let me know anybody else had the same thing. And this is a paypal account that is more than 4 months old, so not a brand new account. And i sell for over 1500$ on this account every week
Thanks,
Ebayfreak |
| lakeman | 04-24-2009 08:06 AM | Paypal is getting smarter! lol
Couldn't you say you had to refund the buyer because you found out shipping was cheaper or something? If you only refunded $.01 I can see them doing this, but $6 you should be able to tell them something. |
| EbayFreak | 04-24-2009 08:12 AM | I did,
But this lady wasn't stupid, see told me that see didn't believed me because see took a look at my refunds the last 3 months :) And they show a different story. |
| lakeman | 04-24-2009 08:18 AM | Oh, that makes sense. I hadn't realized you had done previous refunds. |
| aspkin | 04-24-2009 08:32 AM | So what did we Learn about this group?
EBayFreak has taken one for the team, and tried the 21 day one trick ONE LAST TIME... and now we all Know, PayPal isn't playing around.. :)
It's dead guys, MOVE ON!
*STICKY |
| aking | 04-24-2009 09:15 AM | People, its dead. Just play by the rules and everything will be fine. |
| aspkin | 04-24-2009 09:20 AM | Thanks for reiterating aking. :thumb: |
| importracer150 | 04-24-2009 10:05 AM | Just follow by rules guys,ship the item fast and provide
Tracking numbers and funds will be released. |
| NO ID | 04-24-2009 10:07 AM | My version Paypal:Sir,
Did you try to play with our sercurity rules? NO ID:
Me? Yes it was by accident, why? Paypal:
Last month millions of people found a way around our security system and were able to release all their funds for deposit into external accounts. NO ID:
Wow, you mean they found a loophole in PayPal's system? Paypal:
I cant answer that but yes. NO ID: So now what? Paypal: Well since you were honest I will release your funds but your account will be limited. NO ID: Its ok, I have many accounts you have no idea about. Paypal: Any thing else I can help with? NO ID: Yes, Can you tell me another way to get around the 21 day hold please? Paypal: Logged out. NO ID: Hello? NO ID: Are you there...? Msg10997: You have been logged out of the PayPal chat server. To reconnect, first re login to PayPal. Thank you for using PayPal chat. |
| divine422 | 04-24-2009 02:58 PM | lol, this was bound to happen at some point. |
| GreenBean | 04-24-2009 05:55 PM | aspkin & aking are correct. Rules are laid down by paypal. Any rule can be tweaked.:peace:
tbh, I am laughing at the thought of thousands of sellers doing the 'trick' and wondering why it is finished. No imagination, like. |
| Burst | 04-24-2009 08:01 PM | You should have said you were providing a promotional discount for a first customer purchase.
A seller would have been smart to issue a 2% to 5% refund depending on actual amount. Then include in the message of the refund "PROMOTIONAL FIRST PURCHASE X% OFF"
One would do that. |
| doughboykilla | 04-24-2009 08:19 PM | I would'nt send a thing off until the funds were in my hands. I would have told that lady at paypal to take a hike. lol ill be damned if i will let paypal collect interest off my money and risk losing my items if something goes bad with in 21 days. |
| Vicvelcro | 04-24-2009 09:30 PM | My beef is having the lack of liquidity for 3 weeks. How can you flip inventory with a hold like that? |
| GreenBean | 04-24-2009 09:35 PM | How can anyone do business then? paypal is not dominoes:peace: |
| Burst | 04-28-2009 06:03 AM | Work multiple accounts at different times and you'll have a constant money flow. |
| doughboykilla | 04-30-2009 01:19 PM | Also only certin items gets the holds as well as certin age of the sellers accounts. its odd how it works. |
I don't know what's happening, but PayPal stopped 21 day hold on me, or at least I think so. My feedback is only 40, 100%, account opened 08/2007. The previous two transactions couple of weeks ago were between 950-1500 and I did get hold, of course as expected. My last two transactions were: one at 20.00 something including postage and the last one at 390.00 with postage -total 426.00 since I have to ship to Australia. No hold, so I hope it stays this way.
The interesting thing about this is that both of my two last transaction are international shipments, one was to Belarus and one to Australia. The bigger two before that were both to US.
I wonder if this has something to do with it (shipping internationally), because you probably can't enter tracking number when you ship USPS International. So than PayPal can't follow and maybe can't impose 21 day hold because of it? Anyone else with similar observations? |
| gurusgrafx | 04-30-2009 03:40 PM | ^^^Today I started using an account that has never been used to sell before. had around 15 feedback and is about 6 months old. First payment was about $25 with no hold. I haven't had an account yet that didn't get the first 10 or so payments held since it started and I've used 6 month old accounts before. maybe they're laxing the holds some? |
Maybe they are Gurusgrafx, I hope so. But I also just recently got my PayPal debit card for this account, so not sure if that also helped a little. |
| Vicvelcro | 04-30-2009 06:19 PM | I have had the 21 day hold for items priced $20-$50 shipped to the UK from the US. So it doesn't seem like the 'international theory' is the answer.
I *am* wondering if the debit card changes the formula, though.... |
Yea, me too Vicvelrco...I was thinking International because if you ship USPS there is usually no tracking number, so PayPal can not track it and demand that from you as USPS is one of approved PayPal shippers. I will list few more things this week and see what happens...But could be PayPal Debit card that did the trick. |
| gurusgrafx | 04-30-2009 06:57 PM | Lyda, how much of your feedback is seller feedback? on a couple of my accounts after I passed 20 feedback the holds stopped. now my stuff usually sells 15-30 range so I would assume it to be fairly low risk so that could be an answer. |
All of it Gurusgrafx.. 40 with 100%. Nowdays, I'd probably build up to 5 first buying stuff.. than wait to start selling slowly. But this is account I opened in 2007, before I found this forum, so I started selling right away. I am moving up slowly on this one...but steady. All designer stuff, that's why. |
| coolandcalm | 05-01-2009 07:05 PM | Ive received payments from buyers in australia, never a hold, dont know why but they dont mess with australia payments. |
| GreenBean | 05-01-2009 07:36 PM | |
| EbayFreak | 05-10-2009 11:29 AM | Yes i think that is why. But i got 2 payments last week from a guy from AUS and both in hold. 9$ and 16$ :). It is getting more and more crazy |
| importracer150 | 05-10-2009 12:30 PM | I got a payment for 1700 with no hold on a 2 week old account.
Paypal was vertified before I listed the accord body kit. |
| Stealth Man | 05-11-2009 11:31 AM | I notice the more you play(spend time there hitting links) at paypal and ebay the less holds. Almost no holds on the 1st transactions....After the 1st if you dont play there(again) you will get another hold for sure.....I would spend an hour there for each account and it brought my holds down to 50%......Only worth it on the big ticket stuff I guess........But nearly every account the 1st transaction flys through.......... |
What are the guidelines for the 21 day hold? I have a 9 year old account that I've never had a hold on & I have a few backup accounts I'm selling very slowly on that haven't been held, but the amounts on the backups have been sales for like $20 at a time, etc (small amounts).
Why does the guy with the 4 month old account with thousands of dollars in sales have a 3 week hold? I don't get it. |
| lbass215 | 06-05-2009 01:05 AM | I have figured out a way around it. Yesterday I received 3 payments for 897 497 and 197 no hold money is all there. I have a feedback of 3 please im me for details. |

| simogold | 06-17-2009 02:09 PM | 21 days hold only for eBay-eBay trasanctions or no? Hi,
i want to know if the 21 days hold rule apply only for an eBay transaction or for any PayPal payment sent even outside the eBay auction?
i have an online store and the majority of the buyers from EU . i want to know if somebody pays me with PayPal from my online store, will PayPal hold the money for 21 days or no? and will my PP account will be limited if i received several payments within 1 week or no?.
i used to use Google Checkout without problems within US but now with EU buyers , sometimes GC cancel the order until the buyers can send some verifications which is not convenient for me (80% they don't want that.)
Thank you guys. |
| yaw1800 | 06-17-2009 02:43 PM | the hold only applies to ebay transactions, anything else is no problem |
| simogold | 06-18-2009 06:02 AM | and what about the limitation? could i be limited if i received many payments within 1 week or 15 days.? | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 11:52 PM. | |
