Store bought gift cards for verifying paypal?

All old threads i see, nothing in the last 3-4 months with anyone saying if the current store visa gift cards etc... will work. Does anyone know? Also, simon.com someone posted about them possibly having cards compromised.. it was moved, i suspect to the subscribers forums.. if that's happening, we should know..
