Activity: 0% Longevity: 75% | | New Co-op Acc Opening
hi
I was wondering if anyone can please clear up a query regarding opening a new co-op curent account.
I went in person on monday to open the account. It went fine, didnt even have to show them my id. The lady said "your card will be with you in 7-10 days".
I received a letter & info pack today from them. The letter says
"I am pleased to be able to tell you that, subject to a few formalities, we have approved your application in principle. If everything is in order we will send you your electron card and your pin...."
"before you can start to enjoy the many benefits of your account, you will need to transfer some details held by your old bank".
PS: The account was opened with zero balance - i forgot about it, and the lady never asked for any money to open it.
Is this standard? Will my card follow this info pack?
The letter contains what looks to be a sort code and account number.
many thanks |
The complete step-by-step guide to get back to selling today!

This is very standard. I opened a co-op account online and got the same letter.
I chucked some money in the account (transfer online from a diff bank account) and verified my PayPal all within a week of openin the account
I didn't even have to leave my house once during all this...
Haha, only joking, I am not a reclusive...yet!

The card will 100% follow. Opening in branch or online with co-op just results in the same procedure.

I am trying to remember but...
Have they already given you your account number and sort code?
If so, I would transfer money into it, add it to PayPal and send the deposits. If you haven't already

how many co-op acc's do u have? - i like their fee structure. Half the cost of other banks.
If i open another online acc with co-op, say after a month and say its for a small online venture payment processing - will they ask me to open a business acc instead?
Or should I not give that reason and think of another? |

Should i try to transfer some funds from my original bank acc to it?

^ Yeah do that, it will obviously be your details for your account.
I did it all very soon after opening the account.

Shady is correct - in future just open them online and means your away from all the bull they come out with in many bank branches such as you need to transfer all your money into that account and close your other current accounts.
Make sure you transfer money into the account to make it active and yeah the card will follow usually a couple of days later.

Sorry, for whats a Co-op Account, I don't believe we have them in US, unless you are referring to a joint account.

Banks never send out account details and a card at the same time. It is done seperately for security reasons. .
If teh mail got lost, there is the potential for major problems.

haha shady why dont you like the card reader?
Once you've transferred money once to the given person/account you dont need to use the reader again though.

^ I have many bank accounts and will likely have more in the future, also other people I sevd money to. So you have to use it everytime you are sending to a new account...that drags!

^ I know a handful that are using it.
I lost my card and had to wait for a replacement just so I could set up a new online transfer, forgot my pin once and had to wait for a new pin, not sure if this also doesn't work if your card gets blocked. You also have to wait for the thing to arrive before you can do your first transfer. You would also have to have it with you ALL the time if you want to set up a new payment!
Hassle.
You must be able to call them, if so, that is what I am going to do from now haha. Convenience

confused.com here! I had a quick look on the co-op website but for the Cashminder account it says I have to phone to open an account or do it in branch. Which online account did you open shady?
Cheers (sh*t ........ nearly signed off my message with my real name lol)

hi
the thing that confused me was their wording on the letter.
"I am pleased to be able to tell you that, subject to a few formalities, we have approved your application in principle. If everything is in order we will send you your electron card and your pin...."
"before you can start to enjoy the many benefits of your account, you will need to transfer some details held by your old bank".
what formalities?

^ Well I never botherd to look into it, likely very trivial, such as depositing money into the account to activate or anything else. Perhaps they were doing further research into you.
Anyway, you have your account set up, enjoy!
