If they're still available, please let me know.
Thanks,

| Sneakee | 04-21-2012 02:57 PM | Come on guys and gals! This thread is fun! Let's keep it alive!
Let's see, the other day I found...
Some Barbie dolls new in the box at Goodwill. They were actually not really worth anything. But I had a pile stack in front of me while I was checking them out. A girl comes up and grabs one off the top of my pile. I tell her I'm looking at them. She apologizes and then keeps trying to grab the other ones off my pile!
I tell her to stop that I'm looking at all of them and please stop grabbing them.
It was funny cause I saw them sitting there for a while. I finally walked over, grabbed all 5 to start researching on my phone. Then suddenly everyone is interested in them. So stupid. The time it took me to research them was literally 2 minutes and I put them back.
The girl then grabbed them, walked around with them for 20 minutes and put them back as well.
I learned that at Goodwill everyone gets interested in something that you are holding. They think if you show interest then it must be worth something.
I've also learned that Goodwill thinks Barbies are worth a lot. Even though they sell so cheaply at Walmart that they're resale value is just pathetic.
I'm actually surprised those Barbies weren't behind the glass counter. I have a few Goodwills who keep all the nib Barbies behind the glass counter where they keep the "valuables".
I joke you not, there is one Goodwill that has 4 barbies behind the counter that have been there for a year! |

I joke you not, there is one Goodwill that has 4 barbies behind the counter that have been there for a year! | One of mine has a holiday Barbie that is only a couple years old and they have 45.00 on it. Good for me because it tells me someone has no clue how to price things. Then turned around and found a 1990s NBA barbie for 2.99.
I see many people just grab everything they can and put it into their card and pull off the the side and look at everything to only be a lazy butt and leave the cart sit full of stuff and only take the few things they want. |
| Sandy D | 04-21-2012 07:33 PM | Some of my finds for today
Harley boots, new in box!!! Mega score. 15.00
Harley Helmet 15.00
Harley saddlebags 25.00 like new
Vintage Texas Instrument calculator in box never used.
1940s bowling trophies. I believe the bottom is bakelite.
Box of 1960-70s hot wheels
Box of 1970's halloween costumes in original boxes.
Several early chrome faucets with porcelain centers.
Lots of feedback builders and other cool items.
Found another crossbow and it already sold on craiglists. Look for these people I am seeing a lot of them being sold.
Cabelas hunting jacket, new with tags 10.00
Today was a big score day, every sale I went to I found something.
Had to hit the ATM more then once. |

Just the other day at ARC there was a guy checking out in front of me. He had a cart full of crap. He bought like 10 items out of his cart. Discussing every single item from his cart.
After he picked out what he wanted he left the rest of the items in the cart and just pushed it to the side. We all know how slow those places are at getting the crap back on the shelves too.
What a waste. |
| biggunn | 04-22-2012 03:39 PM | Found myself a very nice Bose item at a garage sale for $2. It is brand new in the box and goes for $100+.
Also found a Panasonic portable VHS player. Goes for $150+. I've found that many vintage Panasonic items sell well and for good prices.
I also got my hands on lots of cassette tapes. I paid $.25 for a bunch that I'm selling for $10+ each. |
| Sandy D | 04-22-2012 07:22 PM | Good job BG.
The bose in the original box should easily sell for 120 or more.
Is it 1990's? |
| Sneakee | 04-22-2012 10:02 PM | Damn Sandy! You scored HUGE! I am majorly jealous :faint:
I only went to one garage sale and got some tiny vintage knick knacks. I can't wait to start hitting those estate sales again. Haven't had the time with the moving and all.
How many garage sales total did you go to? |
| Sandy D | 04-23-2012 01:50 AM | Maybe 7-8.
Couple were bust but the good ones were very good.
Not normal for sure.
Usually have to hit 15-20 or huge community sales to get that much good stuff.
Lucky for sure.
Hey those knick knacks are great feedback builders. |
VHS players still sell?!? |
| Sneakee | 04-23-2012 01:30 PM | rsot - Hell no VHS players don't sell. But I think biggun got some sort of special portable one. That could be a different story. |

| Sandy D | 04-24-2012 04:39 PM | Scored big time last night at an auction house.
Great antiques and collectibles buys and tons of box lots.
Most are usually fb builders but not these box lots. filled with antique smalls, jewelry, silver and silver plate, murano glass etc. for 2.50 to 5.00 per box.
But the box, and I mean the box was the 5.00 box with 55 HP ink cartridges in it. Sticker priced from 14.99 to 40.00, 55 of these for 5.00. What in the heck were people thinking? Amazing.
Have not gone through all the boxes so far but the ones I did pull out some great stuff tells me anywhere from 100 to 200 per box or more.
The other big score was a rare 1960's Fenton hand painted student lamp for 10.00.
Also scored a group of Fender stuff that I have no clue what they are let alone the values. No music equipment knowledge but know they were a great buy as a group.
Should bring 400+. |

| biggunn | 04-25-2012 02:02 PM | Interesting item to keep an eye out for at the various sales... I noticed a vintage Rolex box, BOX ONLY, sell for well over $300 on ebay. Had 30 or so bids too. Note to self... |
| Sneakee | 04-25-2012 04:02 PM | raf - I think I have seen that same clock about a year ago. It was in non-working condition as well.
What's the plaque say? Maker & Year & Origin? |
| rafiqbd007 | 04-25-2012 04:18 PM | Hi buddy, i have no idea about antique. I went today a auction centre, tomorrow people can bid for items. I just take a picture. Its quiet olf 1880s and compas 1930s. Looks valuable, but lets see tomorrow. If i buy i will let u know guys. Frist attemp to buy any antique. |

I always go and take pictures, come home a research and take my notes back with me.
I could not help you with this because you needed to provide more info, what the plaques state etc.
First one is interesting. Also the type of product the 1st one is made of might be of importance.
Not working is mostly a bad thing but if you can buy it and fix it or get it fixed then it changes things. |

I am actually thinking of doing an e book myself.
If I can find the time.
I think I could do well with one as someone on the net has sold over 5000 copies of an e book filled with garbage, not up to date information on antiques and collectibles for 6.95 each. I bought one just to check it out and it is not worth the time to download it. Full of old info, copied info and list of top 100 items that dont sell today. |
| biggunn | 04-26-2012 05:33 PM | Picked up a vintage Nikon camera in the original case with manual and extra lenses. Paid $6 and will sell for $100+. |
| wonderwoman901 | 04-27-2012 09:52 AM | Please make an ebook Sandy Id be your first customer. Im always in thrift stores but its mainly for clothing for myself and two sons. Im surrounded by thrift stores and goodwills, actually found a salvation army about a month ago that does half off of all clothing and accessories in the store and select furniture. I get great deals most of the time I find my sons name brand clothing for .50 to 1.00. I could easily make money selling the clothes on ebay but it would be a lot of work for me right now since im pregnant. I would love to venture to the electronics sections for potential sales. I always come across old game systems like playstations, game boys and etc didnt know they had worth. Dont really know much about glassware, silverware(noticed you said get a magnet lol), and antiques and collectibles. I would love to learn since im always in a thrift store. |
| Sandy D | 04-28-2012 01:10 AM | Found tons of stuff today at yard sales and thrift stores.
Find of the day was a vintage 1970s hockey item. Wont describe because its already on ebay and over 300.00. I found it at a yard sale for 5.00.
Electronics is a tuff learn for me, trying to learn as well. |
| Sandy D | 04-28-2012 02:44 PM | Got back from yard sales this morning and started sorting boxes from the auction the other night.
Holy crap, one of the box lots I bought had a ton of silverware in the bottom.
I found more then 5 pounds of silver flatware in the group. I did not look at it well at the auction but for a couple of bucks and some other miniatures in the box I took a shot at it.
Some of the flatware is not sterling silver but 5 pounds for a box lot I think I paid 5.00 for.
Look for the flatware folks, take a magnet with you etc to sort the crap from the real good stuff. |
| biggunn | 04-30-2012 11:53 AM | I got a nice bag of Game Boys and games at a goodwill this weekend. 2 Game Boys and 5 games. Paid $16. I looked them all up online and I should bring $200 easy with the specific games in this pack. :) |
| Sandy D | 04-30-2012 10:51 PM | For all the musical people here.
I bought a group of Fender items at an auction last week and listed a couple items on CL.
We met with a buyer tonight at the storage shed and he bought everything we had. His offers on several things turned out to be awesome and he was the most honest buyer I have ever met on a CL deal.
He straight up told us what things were and the value. He was a collector, not a re seller and told us how to research the items etc.
I did and he paid us pretty darn close to what things are going for.
Object is if it has a famous name on it and the price is right go for it. |
| Sandy D | 05-02-2012 06:35 PM | Scored big time today at the Salvation Army store.
Several great items but the best was a box of 1960s GI joe clothing, accessories. |

It is an online special deal or something I am missing? | Goodwills have a different color tag on sale each week. It's based on how long the item has been on the shelf. The specific color is 50% off all week. Then on Thursday those color tags are only $1. Check next time you're at a goodwill to see if they do this by you. |

But how do you get a vendor's license? Just form an LLC? |

Careful, they will send you pp tax info in Jan so you will need to have a book keeper handy. |
| Sandy D | 05-07-2012 11:33 AM | Some finds from the yard sales Fri - Sat
Small furniture, cast iron outdoor set table 4 chairs for 30.00. CL item should go for 100 or more easy.

4 Oak high back chairs - 25.00 Should get 100 on CL easy.
Box of GI Joes
Partridge Family lunchbox
12 Holiday Barbies 2.00 each. Not a huge profit but a few bring 25 and most average 12-15.
2 pcs Roseville Pottery 10.00 ea. One will bring 250 easily. Other 100.00. Seller had no clue what they were which is odd today.

Star Wars 1978 items.
Probably the buy of the day was the Air Jordons in original box for 25.00. What little research I did these are from early 2000's and never worn.
2 Harley leather items. Jacket and set of chaps.
Good day to be out at yard sales. |
All this on Craigslist Sandy? Or up for some private offers. |
| Sandy D | 05-07-2012 12:35 PM | I sell the furniture on CL and smalls on ebay. |
thread still goin strong :thumb:
sandy theres quite a few auction/antique shows on UK telly
i think you would like them....thats if you got time lol
all this bargain hunting must take up a lot of your time |
| Sandy D | 05-09-2012 07:53 AM | I used to watch a show from the UK do not know what it was called.
An antique dealer would give 4 people money and have them go out and find stuff at a flea market and see who found the best stuff.
I take my kids to school and head out to the thrift stores, antique shops during the day, pick the kids up and get them settled at home.
Take pictures, write ups, list on ebay. Stop to spend time with kids and hubby.
When they all go to bed I am back at it until 1-2 am almost every night.
Go to 2-3 auctions at night a week most weeks.
Sometimes I hit 2-3 thrift stores and back home around 1 to pack pictures etc and sometimes I hit as many as 6 thrift stores, antique malls etc.
I have a route I take.
Two mornings a week I go to 2 different large flea markets, takes about 2-3 hours to go through them.
So yes, I work hard and spend a ton of time doing it.
But, I enjoy the hunt and the money/profit.
Last weekends yard sales were one of those Saturdays when I cannot wait for the next community yard sale. I have my eyes on two big ones in gated areas this weekend. Will be a good weekend for sure.
I am very busy and do not waste much time. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 05:44 PM. | |
