Default Refund buyer or not?

I sold a buyer an item on November 19th and they asked me for a refund today. They claim the item is not working properly and agreed to exchanging it for a new one. A couple of hours later they said they just want a refund. What should I do?

It all depends on the value of the item.

Supply more info.

Value of item?

Value/age of account?

How much work are you prepared to do to preserve your account?

Far as I know ebay/paypal squeeze sellers in any country they exist.

Face that reality sooner rather than later.

The buyer opened a case on ebay saying "This item doesn't match the description in your listing." Can I get suspended from getting this?

Only if you mishandle the situation.

Are you shy to share more info with us?

That's the general idea of replies to threads after users ask questions.

Now, if you were to say buyer wants a refund on a $30 item, some of us might say do it.

If you were to say buyer wants a refund on an item worth $150 ( or higher) some of us are going to say proceed with care.

But if you are more worried about being choked & suspended, then there's not a lot you are giving us to help to assist you.

If by shock horror this might be a foo-foo, then be aware of consequences. ebay usually sides with the buyer....

What was your return policy stated in the listing?

The opened SNAD case means the buyer is going for the jugular.

My advice to you if you really want to keep this account clean is to respond to the case offering to refund the buyer upon return of the item. Listen... you can always resell the item and possibly at a better price.

By doing this you will avoid possible 4 strikes on your account:

- opened case
- closed case you didnt resolve
- low DSR on item as described ... maybe others too if the customer wants to rape you
- and the icing on the cake... bad feedback which will deter future customers with NO chance for you to leave feedback on your albatross customer.

So you thought selling on eb was going to be a piece of cake, eh?

Not much info here to help.

But for me I dont want issues and or negatives.

For a low priced item I refund and tell them to keep the item or give it away so I dont have to deal with returns.

I also have it very clear in my listings. I will accept a return up to 14 days. I will not accept any return for any reason after the 14 days. If you have an issue you must contact me before the 14th day or the sale is considered final and you have agreed that you received the item and you did not have an issue.

I word it different for all accounts but seldom get a problem buyer anymore once I did this.

When and if I do and its cheap I refund and move on and ask for positive return of feedback.

If it is a large sum of money then I handle it a different way.

Buyers have us all by the throat and as I call them professional buyers who sit all day looking to find a low feedback seller to scam and get something for free.

Youre still being quite closed up about the item (or type of item) and cost. Even if you dont deal with the refund, pp/eb may force you to issue the refund once buyer returns the item.

For a small amount I think you did the right thing.

Should now follow up--

I sent you a full refund, just checking to see if you got it.

Hopefully they will be nice and leave you a good positive feedback.

You know, it's funny because I had an instance where a buyer left positive and thanked me yadda yadda. Then comes back 30 days later spouting some bull and opened a case. Before I could even respond to it, he escalated it to ebay and they sided with the buyer. Come on now, he had left positive already AND it was 30 days since. I didn't even get a chance to respond to the case...that's what pissed me off the most.

So should you refund your buyer? Probably...have him send the item back though - if he doesn't want to then you know he is dicking you. OR he may send back a totally different unit.

Have them send it back and you should of had a return policy as someone said. It's been almost 60 days so he can't leave you feedback after the 19th. I would of dragged it out! But that's just me personally, and have them return you the item with tracking! I once had a case like yours after 45 days I had shipped it to Canada. And he wanted his money back. And he opened the same type of case against me. I called up ebay/pp as always. And told them if he wants a return he has to send the item, since he left feedback first also. And the case was open for 10 days and closed cause he didn't provide a tracking number back to pp for a return. After a tracking number was provided and he returned it, PP took the money out of my account and gave him a refund. Was over 60 days for the whole process and that was it.

I had one buyer pull the -$20 routine on me, stating someone took his credit card information and buys it without his permission and when I emailed him, I got ZERO emails from them. I hate buyers like that!

I've had a few who wanted a return and tell me "It's not worth it going to the post office to ship this $9 item back!" I tell them "It's not worth for me to lose money on a product, shipping it out too you and standing in line either!"
