Default Spotting vero and infringing items when listing

I have always wondered about VERO items and whether it is possible to determine from the sell your item page whether the items are VERO?

When you are on the second page of the listing ready to submit some items you get the warning about being authentic or not. Would this be a way to tell? Anyone know if they actually get manually reviewed and the account looked into after this getting this message and submitting the listing?

I am not looking to list high risk but in the past I have sold official trade cards, for example, and the likes of having Manchester United or Arsenal in the title get this message and would rather not list something if it meant a manual review.

On a lighter note there have been funny ones in the past - Bruce Springsteen The Boss book, guess for BOSS. A velvet revolver cd got a firearms notice! haha.

Absolutely. I used to ignore them and carried on regardless and never had a problem. I know the listings were delayed though so curious if they actually get manually reviewed as hen i was not a problem looking into anything but with stealth I am trying to be ultra cautious!

Any item that bears a registered trade mark can potentially cause VERO problems.

Not all rights owners subscribe to the programme but this does not stop any company or organisation from requesting e/b to remove their products from the site if they so wish.

Technically any use of a copyright name or logo without the owners permission is an infringement of their rights.

Well it's been trial and error over the past years. Tbh stuff sold is normally low risk for vero but occasionally get surprised by something being removed! I have a pair of adidas shoes which I bought direct from the official adidas website but they didnt fit and I forgot to send them back! Cost £110 but just cant even be bothered to put them on ebay as it's not worth the chance of hassle. Having a personal cover letter from the president of adidas wouldn't make a difference if they got removed!

Nowhere as far as I know.

e/b do not publish a full list and even if they did any rights owner can request a takedown regardless of whether they are part of the programme or not.

As a general rule if an item bears a registered trademark the proceed with caution.

Go into Google or any other search engine and search 'VERO Participants' for a full list by category.

Bare in mind even companies that are not VERO can still ask for items to be taken down. Some companies also hire other companies to do the take downs for them so may not appear on the VERO list when in fact they are.

Remember that these warnings which pop up are triggered by bots!

I have had them in the most hilarious circumstances.

I was selling some decorative hair combs and one had the stock number "BB" in the title. You guess it - I got a firearms warning. I had never heard of a BB gun til then.

Another time I listed a piece of vintage jewellery described in text as "assyrian style" and got a warning about using "adult language". Well I was mystified until my nephew reminded me that "ass" is a swear word in the USA and the listings were on .com.

i would say 95% of vero takedowns are by bots. they created algorythms that scan title and description and take action. Still - it is a computer program so it works only within the boundaries someone programmed it in - meaning it can be tricked

Quite true - clever listings do trick the bots...unless a manual review is done.

That's why, trial and error is needed

Not to forget others reporting sellers. There are people with nothing better to do then report everything and anything they can find...
