Default eBay drops PayPal as first choice for payments

Pretty big news!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-42905465

Well that just solved quite a lot of problems!

How it will work fully I don't yet know myself but this is potentially a great move. Time will tell

Rolls out at first in North America

Yeah... it's great that eBay is doing away with the thing you sell for a profit, lol.

Same thing that happened with Elmo's UK AZ accounts will happen here.

Which part?

The issue most people have with selling on eBay isn't eBay itself but related to PayPal

With PayPal being dropped then that isn't an issue

That doesn't mean its smooth sailing and it does mean adjustment may be needed but PayPal do have a reputation for being very very hot to limit account so with them out the way they are no longer a factor

It also means that people that have been limited on PayPal can now (well shortly) start to use the new eBay processer and therefore they can make use of potentially old accounts that were no use due to the limited PayPal

My guess is that dealings with this new processor will be the same or harder than paypal - I always found paypal fairly loose and easy to deal with, eg. better the devil you know.....

The thing with old ebays, alot have been deleted due to lack of use/sign-in, or they got suspended at the same time, so there is a sub-section of old ebays that are still alive......but can we assume they are good to use again.

Re-using banks again that are attached to dead paypals, that is a bonus though - again, assuming paypal does not share any info with ebay about what banks were attached to paypal in the past....

Maybe I'm pessimistic but I'm far from clueless. I use 3 payment processors daily and Paypal is by far the loosest in terms of seller vetting. Stealth accounts don't exist on other e-commerce platforms because other platforms actually verify their sellers.

At best this will make eBay like Etsy where stealth is ALMOST impossible. At worst this will make eBay like Authorize.net and stealth will be totally impossible without committing fraud.

Could you elaborate why stealt on etsy is almost impossible? I find it quite easier to stealth on only one platform (etsy) than on 2 (egay and gaypal). Since Ayden (which will be used by ebay in 2 years) is the payment processor for etsy I quite celebrate ebays decision.

I have very little experience with Etsy but the one account I made there required my SSN on signup. My comment was mostly based on the horror stores I've read about seller verification requirements here on the forum. There has to be a reason nobody sells Etsy accounts even though there's plenty of demand for them now.

Etsy is pretty easy if you think outside the box. Way easier than ebay/pp or amz.

Does it involve fraud?

That's usually what "outside the box" implies..

It does not. For starters: Lets say you need to think outside of President Trump's box.

Does this mean we can still re-use some of stealth info with the new eBay's NEW partner Adyen?

Not sure about how much info was exchanged between paypal and ebay... I think we'll have to test it.

I already made this thread today and was told there already is one in the main forum....lol

I've not had a chance yet to dig too deep on this situation but but it seems like it could be a big learning curve.

So far from what i've been reading on other sites it seems like ebay isn't going to stop using paypal altogether, only stopping using it as there main funding option.

If this is true then it will be interesting to see how it will work with paypal holding funds until ebay tell them to release them.

On the other hand, it seems like Adyen is registered as a bank so there would be a lot of fraud cases should the same docs be submitted to them....lol

This is either going to be a slight hiccup or a disaster :(

btw... I also have found paypal ok to deal with.

These sorts of questions will need to be applied to testing.

There are already posts on here where there is positive info.

Here is some help
.there are two other threads gong with info.

Bulldog started one here in the UK section.
https://www.aspkin.com/forums/uk-eba...-platform.html
aspkin made another thread in the main eBay secti0n.

https://www.aspkin.com/forums/ebay-d...tml#post898546

But to be nice, Look at posts by this user....
https://www.aspkin.com/forums/members/gladiator.html

To recap early days, heap of thoughts, testing happening. Hang in there, the info will come.

Hell no.

I have banged the drum for two days now on how Adyen isn’t that hard to operate under. One of my biggest statements when dealing with Etsy stealth is I am 100% against foo documents, using others info, etc. Adyen doesn’t require it. You have to do things a certain way to setup but it’s always legit.

In this case the simplicity of it is what throws people off. Nothing about stealth on the platforms I’ve encountered it has been difficult to get around if you do things slightly different. Never any doc requests and you verify the shop down the road with legit info.

This comes in in 2020 when ebay's contract with Paypal ends?

Paypal limitations back office are the most vile scum b*stards around. Lower than ISIS. They can destroy a business overnight with their pathetic limitations.

Anything that damages that business is fine by me.

Will have to wait and see how the new payment processor works out. Just hope they do not keep my money and hold it for 180 days.

I might ring up Paypal limitations now and give them a load of ****.
