I am thinking of getting a dongle, what are the benefits in them. I already have a VPN which i was paying for.
From what i've heard, the IP resets on a dongle when you take it out?

Ive just ordered a 3 zte now :P. I bought one with preloaded 12gb for 1 year. Would that be enough?.
Also how do you go about changing ur IP. Is it just unplug, then re-plug, and boom?

I dont even need to unplug my 3g dongle- log off and back on- always go to ip burger though to check that the address has changed. Several members on here have advised me to make a note/ spreadsheet of the ip addresses you are logging into eb and pp with in case they duplicate occasionally otherwise you could get linked.:D

I have not bought a dongle yet, but 12GB bandwidth does not sound like a year to me!
Perhaps I am online too much though!

lolz,
probably not even casual, just essential & still your going to struggle,
op,cancel that order is you can,
get a monthly rolling contract or pay as you go,
ive got a feeling that if you run out of the 12gb you wont be able to top it up untill the year has passed!
find out if thats correct,
theres loads of dongles on the market and theres loads of routes you could go down,
i personally chose a pay as you go,i top up when im running out & i do it online, simplez

lolz, thats perfect for you that is value for money,
only thing with a contract is you cant top up if you go over the 15gb,
it will be hard to go through 15gb in a month, but if you d`load loads of stuff it could go quite fast.
i suppose you could just buy a cheap payg one incase you go over!

Top up for only 7gb is £25 on pay as you go!
So £18 for 15gb a month seems to be winning me over.
Anyone else out there in the world wide web got a better one then post it for us!

you can get a three sim with 3GB for £6.99 valid for 3 months, it's enough. Look on ebay.

^So how long do you get out of 3GB? I know where to buy them from lol I just want peoples opinions on how long they last.
To me that seems like about 50 hours browsing....if you only do that in three moths, well, business mustn't be doing so good

hi shadyone.
With these Three mobile broadband simcards you have 3GB allowance or 3 months of usage whichever comes first.
If you use your 3GB in one week then the sim lasts one week. If you don't use it at all it will run out in 92 days from first connection. If you buy it but never connect, well... it's still new :D and it will start the countdown the first time you connect. Simple.
The 92 days start when you connect the first time.
Once run out you can simply top it up (I believe it is £15 for another 3 months slot) but I find it cheaper buying another one off ebay for about £7 and ditch the old one.
Personally I use the 3 dongle for ebay/pp purposes only. I normally reach the 3 months that I have more than half of the 3GB left. I am going through the 3rd one at the moment.
For me the only activity is logging into ebay and paypal, list auctions, buy stuff, pay, send invoices and withdraw money. That's about it, I use the "normal" broadband for the rest including uploading pictures to photobucket for example.
If you want to use one of these mobile broadband dongle for general browsing to make it last longer I suggest Firefox and install a few of these add-ons that block the pictures and flash rubbish so you don't eat your bandwidth loading unwanted advertisements. For this I can recommend Flashblock, Ghostery and Better Privacy (they are also installed on my "stealth" firefox, they block beacons, cookie-reading and other inconvenient activities).
The add-on Image and Flash Blocker (not to be confused with "Flashblock", that's a different one) doesn't work so well blocking flash contents in my opinion but has a very handy images-on / images-off toggle button. That will save you a ton bandwidth jumping from page to page with the images turned off. And obviously pages load faster too.
Hardwarewise I can recommend the affordable ZTE MF112, faster than the (still good) HUAWEI E160 which is quite cheap now. Both you find for £10-£15 top on ebay. Dongle and simcard: £20-£25 and you are ready to go.
By the way, you don't need to buy a 3 branded dongle, they can be easily de-branded and unlocked (search the internet) to accommodate any mobile broadband provider. They work on Ubuntu too with no installation, just plug it in and click "connect".
Hope this helps. Sorry for the long post.
PS: the issue with not being able to perform certain operations on Paypal seems to have disappeared at the moment (see one of the thread I started somewhere here). I suspect it was one of the super-privacy addons causing the issue by the way, they must have updated it and the problem's gone at the moment.

^ Ahh good idea on disabling thing to stop wasting bandwidth
That is what I will do, by them off ebay and use them for ebay and paypal only. I will find a cheaper broadband connection and use that for everything else :D
Great post asphyx, helped a lot
I agree about one of the addons possibly fixing the paypal problem.

It's just remembering to make sure you get things done in eb ay quickly(read mail, ship items etc..) log out don't surf the web after you finish eb ay/ pa ypal then your using your minutes up
