Default How long to open dispute on eBay??

How long does a buyer have to file an item not received case on eBay?

Tonight I've had someone open an item not received case and eBay has told me to respond but the item was sent bought on 22/6/2013 and posted the following day first class recorded and he/she has opened a dispute on 15/8/2013 so 54 days later

Now I've checked the tracking number and it says item is being returned to sender obviously cos the buyer wasn't at home to sign for it and never collected it from the post Office Depot but I've never received it back

The item was only a £12 item so wasn't an expensive item but I thought they only had 45 days and why on earth would anyone wait 54 days to start a not received case for an item they should of got within 2 days of them paying??

eB has been very loose with their claim opening allowances...technically it`s supposed to be 45 days but there are cases like yours...buyers opening claims way after ESPECIALLY by speaking with an eB agent or PP agent who can do a manual claim.

Buyers do not always act the way we want / expect them to.

They havent received the item. You know this for a fact. Refund them and relist the item when you get it back from Royal Mail.

They do state 45 days.

However, a carefully scripted call to ebay could have an INR claim opened. This is happening more frequently.

Who knows what story the buyer told them, but a sympathetic ebay staff member would allow such a filing.

Had an off paypal claim allowed. Site had notice of being under renovation etc.... no response to emails or phone. One screenshot meant paypal agreed to allowing a claim, Was about 4 days late.

Buyers can file a claim with paypal until 60 days out automatically, so paypal is a little longer.

Your getting the item back so its no loss to you. Refund, get the item back, relist move on. Be nice to the buyer and sympathetic, it will help in getting a positive feedback from them rather than a neutral or negative which is what you want to avoid if possible.

I agree that after nearly two months its wrong for such a case to be opened but a refund can be done via PP after 60 days from the transaction. Never had it happened to me though i think 3 weeks has been the longest gap between posting an item and a case being opened for not arriving.

I'm going to refund the buyer it wasn't a big amount and he hasn't received it even though I haven't had it back I was just shocked someone would wait nearly 8 weeks to tell me they haven't received an item that they should of got within 2-3 days of them buying

True statement but it's just bad that eB and pp dont stick to tight timeframes - too much in favour of buyer, as we call know
