Canadian's theory doesn't explain what happened to me neither. I strongly believe that it is a visibility issue.
I think ebay tries to split sales between different sellers by turning listing visibility on/off.
i sell are softwares that requires montly subscription. People cannot just stop buying them. What i sell is just like food. You need them so it is not just bad economy...

My other ebay account where I sell watches, is actually doing a record month right now. Tho the limit is stuck at $5000 since I bought it from one of the sellers on here. So who knows what it would be like if I could list more then that.
If I list $5000 I sell $900-1500 in watches. If I list $20,000 , I sell $7,000 in parts. And that number has been growing the past 3 months. I MIGHT still hit record sales this month, so maybe I shouldn't be complaining. But that's with extra work, and putting up extra listings and having to deal with 8 days of $200's in sales.

I did cell phone parts and I find it similar to your situation.
Well, November is a week away, so let's hope that it will triple our sales like it used to for the past couple of years

And yeah even people in my category are at the top selling 10 to 15 per day then some days they are not even on the top no more and then they are back and selling a lot of them and don't own an ebay store.
They pull your listings. I noticed this also for myself because at times I can't find my items on ebay with VPS I still got a few and also because I count my watchers daily some days I get 0 and some days I get like 20 out of the blue and tons of sales then dead drop. Even with 30+ stealths running at the same time spreading sales it's a bit harder. Going into newer products and my stuff is hot selling. They are def doing something + google cutting them off as I posted a few pages ago people who still ignore it.
On top of it, I have read articles were people use to make $4k in sales per month now making $300 only per month. People who use to rank in $1 million are now doing less then 80% of what they use to.

In my recent experience on Above standard accounts in a mildly flooded market, a 3 day listing gets almost zero visibility the first day and very little the second day with sales on the third day.
I am reverting back to 100% auctions on these items.

Ever since that bafoon John was in charge and placed limits on ebay for selling, well there is way less items to sell. If you limit the seller abilities to list items to 10, what do you think going happen, less sales, less customers. Until ebay lifts the dumb limits on accounts and lets us out of the pen and back to listing unlimited amounts. Amazon going keep winning, sellers wll be going to amazon in droves. You can list till you can't see on amazon. That is why the are ahead of ebay and will always be. LIFT THE LIMITS and Ebay will get back on track! Wake up EBAY!

Wake up EBAY! | Seems like ebay are going the exact opposite way, with messages like:
"you can't state in your description that ebay would suspend your account
if the buyer won't leave you 5 stars feedback", before you list an item.
Someone there has a mentality of a 10 year old, playing with poo-poo
instead of concentrating on bringing more sellers in.

I wonder what happened to the ebay categorys? Maybe that has to do with slow sales? Seems like ebay removed the categorys now. None of my listings show under a category.
And when searching for an item it just spits out random sellers.
bring back categories!

I am doing extremely well with medium priced $350-800 items on auctions. Fixed price not so much.
Constantly manipulating the system to get visibility faster or instant. If I dont, the whole first day is a loss.

@yankee have you seen your rankings go down because of a few cases opened or anything? Maybe shipping time a bit slower etc

Profit wise is exceptional on my auctions, but ebays search is definitely messed up and it is taking them forever to get it in general search hence fixed price is lagging way behind.

On my big accounts, they are always busy, it is hard to know if a lag is there or not. This is the tail end of our busiest season on those big accounts so we always expect sales to lull late October till after Thanksgiving.
I was referring specifically to the smaller stealth accounts I have been playing with and testing new markets, moving used goods, etc... Auctions are king and search/visibility is lower/slower than it should be on fixed price.

Weird, I've been making a KILLING on OTHER peoples auctions lately...
I have noticed that when I'm searching for things, I can do a search a day or more later, and find something that I didn't see the first time around. Like it just didn't appear.

I was having the Same issues with search visibility of items , in the beginning of the year when changes started to take over, items that normally would sell fast and at a great price, I couldn't sell anything 0 BIN sales on TRS accounts
I went to all auctions but items that normally would sell fast BIN AT $52-$56 I was selling auction 100% but $32-38 big difference
After two weeks I decided to try a new account and listed BIN at $52.99 and an hour later 3 sales
Ebay was basically trying to get rid of old accounts TRS status or not, so between June and August I made a lot of accounts and sales are normal I just needed to adjust and keep accounts fresh, ebays backwards mentality was giving better exposure to new accounts and just doing away with aged accounts
I operate with many accounts , but it's nice to have bin listings again selling and auctions selling at $52
It took a lot of adjusting but eBay is just totally different than it was this time last year, and if I didn't completely change everything up, I'd be out of business

I tried some new accounts and they don't make a difference.
So now that it's november, I'm hopeful that things will pick back up....
