It's,a game of percentages, u need to try and counter act your defects by making a lot of defect free sales.

Your either going to run 100's of accounts where it won't matter as much Or if you want to be successful on a few accounts you need to go full steam , and make a lot of sales

There are a lot of items that you can sell that are very low cost and simple enough where you will Get almost always no defects on, as long as your shipping out fast

Things like shipping supplies, you can sell say 10 shipping labels for $1 , an item like this as long as you ship it on time will always be good and not get defects, so always sell lots of items like this along with your normal items , if you sell 200 items a month on an account than the system actually isn't that bad

At first it looked terrible, because when u first start to sell u start with 0 sales so 1 defect is a big percentage of that , as you build up your sales, than your able to absorb more defects, the key is to always sell a ton of the low risk items

Default Ebay Defects

And the issue with selling a ton of low price items for no profit is selling limits, it will only be able to happen on very old accounts that has huge limits, even on a 100/5000 account is hard to waste those limits on those items just to balance defects instead of making money with profitable items.

What do you do on new accounts? It's a balancing act at first, do you just sell low items at break even stuff to build the accounts and limits and then switch to your items?

I'm currently looking for items like that for new accounts to sell so thanks for that tip, any others that can be shared where there is no profit but good for selling to the 10 max on new accounts? I know asking for items it is not allowed but I'm asking for things that don't make money but sell quickly for good feedback and defect free

You don't need to make no profit but you won't make a big pay day, I have items that I use for this that I'll profit between $1-$4 , so I'll still make something overall, every once in a while I'll lose a few cents on one item but it's balanced out by my other low risk items.

As the months go on i gradually mix more and more of my regular items in as well, I'll go really slow each month withstood items and the 4'th month is when I start to be a little more aggressive

It's important to list the items you plan to,list in the future on accounts , because you don't want to build an account and than once the holds from paypal are gone and limit increases from eBay to totally shock the system and change all your items all at once.

So I always list the low cost items every month and slowly build on the amount of my regular items

The first month I may just lis a couple low branded than month 2 I'll list 2 or 3 regular items in the mix and increase as months go on

dmshark is absolutely correct. On my main account I have many low risk items I basically break even on listed just because they are easy feedback and high DSRs. The eBay metrics are weird now. As far as I know the DSRs etc a $2000 item with low DSRs counts the same as a $2 item. It really is a stupid game you have to play.

The issue that I've found in my research of low cost items is shipping. I like to always offer free shipping but just about any item over 13oz have to be shipped USPS priority mail which is between $5-$8 or even higher if using medium flat rate boxes and above. So a $1 item cost jumps to $6-$7 and can't be sold for $7-$8 anymore which is what it should cost. What am I missing? How do you guys handle shipping cost in your low cost items?

Just to add to this thread...

Ever since I added "free shipping" and TRY to ship same day, if not next day I've seen a dramatic change in overall feedback, dsr, etc etc...

Simply shipping it out as quickly as possible really can make or break a sale, depending on the customer.

(just add the amount you would have charged for shipping to the listings price, its a mental game)

Not sure to be honest but I do know you have to take what they say with a grain of salt. Its sad, they should be the source where we all go to get the most accurate information, but its this forum for me.

I've been lied to WAY to many times to ever trust another rep again... Sometimes you got to learn the hard way with them.

Yes them system really not help they pass you like ball to another suport member ,all the time ..
Then more stars you have then less wil be % of defect ? as now i have 1.58 % defect ..if i will sell example 50 more items with no defect so them 1.58% will reduced ??

If your defects rating goes to below standard can you open a second seller account using the same details name address etc. and use that account until your defect rating improves on the old account.
Just realised no-one has answered the question: If i don't use an account with defects will those defects be removed after one year?

Yes it is true. They will disappear a year after being on your account. The same way negative feedback gets removed from your % after a year. It just falls away.

Good point, there are minimum postage costs over here in the UK as well of course and in those cases it would cost us money to post those items out that had such a low selling price that we still have to pay full postage costs on

But that's the point being made here, by adding those postage costs onto the price of a really cheap item puts its overall price to up and beyond being a really cheap item anymore, and obviously buyers can see that and recognise it
