Activity: 4% Longevity: 75% | | Buyer didnt read description, now wants return!
I sold an item and in the description stated that part X wasnt included in the sale. Now the buyer wants to return because they didnt receive part X with the item.
They said they couldnt see anything that said this part X wasnt included in the description when it clearly was and I have uploaded a screenshot and link to my listing with that information.
They have opened a return request. What are the chances of me winning if it goes to ebay to resolve?

0 chance of you "winning", it's just a matter of who's going to pay for return postage. eBay will allow the buyer the return the item regardless though.

Your going to have to accept the return. Nothing you can do to prevent that

Here's the thing:
Some buyers are idiots. You can't fix stupid.
It doesn't matter what your listing says, or doesn't say.
Buyers will win 100% of the time if they want a return for any reason. Period.
Either accept the return, or the buyer can escalate to a case, or even a PayPal dispute. Do you want that?

The problem is (the last time I checked about a year ago, at least) that listing descriptions do not show on the eBay App unless potential buyers click a link that takes them to another page.

Using the mobile app also makes it that much harder for the buyer to read feedback.
One of my clients has one seller account with a TON of neg. feedback but the buyers don't seem to care all that much about it, maybe because the majority of those orders are via the mobile app and they arn't aware of it. I think that might be done on purpose as eBay doesn't want to dissuade any customer from making a purchase for any reason.
The mobile experience leave out a lot of details that are seen via browser, for sure.

This is one of those things you have to accept, think long term how much you had made on ebay and accept the fact that you are going to have customers like this now and again, accept return pay for postage and move on.
I learn the hard way, if they want to return, let them return. Be nice so they leave you positive feedback. thats what counts

Trust me, most of us as seller on this forum concur with your buyer experience.
When I have buyers open return requests, I always follow-up with messages apologizing for the inconvenience and assuring them I will make it right. The vast majority of the time they are happy and even leave good feedback in return, which is what matters.

Yes, thinking about the long term game for the account returning this request was the best decision.
Need to leave those emotions at the door when logging into ebay and put on that business hat!

Like others have stated pretty much, idiot buyers and returns are just the cost of doing business. As long as you provide quality products and service your return rate should be pretty low. Mine is 1-2% overall, which isn't that bad. 95% of my returns are because somebody didn't read the description or changed their mind. It's best to be polite and try to accommodate these buyers rather than argue with them in my opinion. It sure can be frustrating at times though.

I think in that case chance of your win is very small

I sometimes see sellers say they don't take returns. The thing is, there is no such thing and it doesn't matter that the listing says at all.
Any buyer can force a return for any reason. A crazy buyer will even go so far as to initiate a SNAD or PayPal dispute.
A couple years ago I had one nutcase return a box with two rocks taped inside a toilet paper roll along with three "adult" magazines. I was not amused, and took it seriously as it was a fairly expensive item. Even though I showed eBay and PayPal pictures of the package, contents, and even a video they still sided with the buyer.
You chances of wining any return dispute are nearly non-existent.

It can be considered as impulse buying. If you clearly stated that item x is not included and yet the customer opened a return request then they can return the item, but you can deduct the delivery amount from the refund amount. Also, the customer may leave you a negative feedback, but you can always have it removed. Take it from me, I've been with the escalations team of ebay for years.

Crap that’s dumb, but I guarantee you will run into dumb buyers sometime in your life.
You can try to make them happy by explaining the situation and offering a some kind of resolution
