| the fabricator | 10-11-2007 07:23 AM | You've been able to put in your own IP? Or block it? Assuming you meant the first; I have a mac and I noticed that if I quit Network Diagnostics it returns back to the old IP, however if I keep the window up it stays. So it's weird. I'm also assuming that I could just type in any number there, correct? Are there so many IP's that it will by chance be a real one that I make up? |
| the fabricator | 10-11-2007 06:18 PM | this is weird though, because when I go to whatsmyipaddress.com it still says my old one, not the one that I set it to maually. ?? Aspkin how did you manually change it? |
| siashay | 01-02-2008 06:41 PM | O.k. so I have a proxy, don't know how to use a proxy? Ok so it took me a week to figure out how to even get a proxy, this is after a week of trying to figure out what a proxy is. So I get a add on of firefox. so about my google bar there is a bar with a eye on it. When I check my ip address using that bar it gives me a different ip address. But here is the thing. I can get on ebay or paypal with the proxy on because I can't except cookies I guess. So I call paypal because you can't call ebay.
I say. I have a proxy server because my 11 year old son was messing around on myspace and I am scared some perv will find out where he lives.
They say, you can use a proxy that excepts cookies and m3m or m3p files. I ask what m3p? or whatever she called it was? she started to tell me and another guy got on the phone right away. He sounded upset. I then ask him what these files are. He said, the other women doesnt know what she is talking about. Then real fast like told me to go to tools bla bla bla except cookies. Then hangs up.
It was very strange.
So here I am still not knowing how to use the proxy and wondering what these m3p? and no she didn't say mp3, at least I know what that is. |
| Jonas | 01-02-2008 07:44 PM | if you use open proxies, ebay will jack your accounts up. At the very least, reset password. |
| siashay | 01-04-2008 08:44 PM | proxy change ip or both? What do you recommend? I can't get into eebay/paypal w some proxy's. Plus I notice they drop sometimes. Changing ip address all the time can be a pain. |
| ivegotinfo | 01-05-2008 12:27 PM | i just use dialup. slower internet, but less pain in the you know where. |
| aspkin | 01-09-2008 03:51 AM | Dial up is a great option. It's slow but it works. |
Alternative to Proxies and IP resetting I haven't tried this yet, but its an idea, takes a bit more work, its kind of a developers solution, but whatever
Say you want to run two accounts,
Get two seperate web hosting packages, standard web ones, preferably with mysql. Get em in August, they have cool deals, I've got one that costs £1 for the first year and you can register 10 domains with it. That was of course, in August. (after that 17.50 a month, but i'll be using it for multiple income purposes). K so locate 2 good deals, seperate servers. Then sign up for two seprate ebay developer accounts, from different comps and internet connections. Then use the developer API, and PHP programming, to create an api-xml request forwarder, and platform notifications reciever, have both of these feed into a seperate mysql database, doesnt matter where that is hosted. Create a GUI customised to your needs, however you like, php, java, c#, whatever, doesnt even matter where its hosted, that feeds into the mysql database. So essentially you have this kind of layer in the middle sort of operation
...............................ebae :P
................................./
..............................API
............................../
......................Server 1 (IP 1)
.........................../
GUI -> mysql db <->
..........................\
......................Server 2(IP 2)
............................\
...........................API
..............................\
............................ebae
Thus if for some reason, the server 1 account is suspended, well you've got server 2 to work on, you can close that webhosting account open a new one, a new developer id (in someone elses name of course), new ebay account (in someone else name of course), and youve got one to work from while you get the other going.
Whats more you can use the webhosting for online stores, and integrate and synchronise the mysql database into them. Be aware, that one developer account, uncertified, has a maximum of 5000 api calls per day, an example of an API call would be to list an item (actually listing items are free from the quota), but also to check questions, to leave feedback, to check your account. anything action that youd take on ebay would constitute on call. For most people that should be enough, what what.
Now please do feel free to take the entire idea apart, and tell me how it might have problems.
By the by, i think it would be illegal for me to develop this, and then sell it without being certified (can only use uncertified ebay dev account for personal use and development, if you make it public and sell it, its got to be certified, which means you send it to ebay and they check it over, mainly to see that your not wasting API calls).
On the other hand, maybe it would get certified! |
| Jonas | 01-19-2008 01:38 PM | ytl that's pretty complicated. |
| Slavaja | 01-22-2008 03:19 AM | proxy question hey i just wanna know if proxies are really safe because what if someone use a proxy example 125.232.321.11 port 8080 and it got blacklisted by ebay and then you use that proxy server for ebay. i would be get banned right or the chances of that happening is low? |
| josipk | 01-22-2008 04:00 AM | hi slavaja.
wher in melbourne are you.
I'm from Richmond and I have same problems with ebay accounts.
Maybe we could get together and talk about our problems and share info.
Let me know what you think.
Looking forward to your reply. |
| winterson | 01-22-2008 07:23 AM | Use the VPN to avoid this type of problems. Proxies are not a good idea. Use the VPN for dynamic IPs. |
| ebayhateluv | 01-22-2008 07:27 AM | Yes, in the USA, The couple of Proxies I have experimented with--heres what happened:
a.) Ebay either wouldnt load or run--would not allow pics, etc. stalled
b.) ebay ended up suspending the accts for "Abusing"
This is just my experience.. I have tried Several. |

| ebayhateluv | 01-22-2008 07:38 AM | SLAVAJA-- If you click on a Members name-- it will give you a drop down box--
See it? It's Blue.. then arrow down-- you can send a member a Private message ...
I apoligize if you already know that??
(Just thought you were trying to communicate directly with the Gentleman from Melbourne)-
BTW- my very BEST Customers, ( Out of the USA)customers are from Australia-- I have NEVER had a scam, a chargeback or a neg or neutral from there.. :)) |
| californiadreamer | 01-22-2008 02:43 PM | so on vpn they cannot see your ip correct because its like a tunnel?? Am I understanding correctly?? |
| bigrab54 | 01-30-2008 12:55 AM | Using a proxy to hide your ip address? Hi just wondering if by using a proxy works for hiding from ebay or would ebay know something is up and suspend you. |
| ebayhateluv | 01-30-2008 01:39 AM | Hi, Bigrab54:
Seems the other members have reported in General, that Ebay does NOT like
Proxies...
Theres several threads on this, and my last reading was from Modee, where he and Chris Hanson was testing one..
--According to Modee, it had to pass 3 out of 3 tests, and it did not.. you can find that thread under proxies, or under Modee posts.. |
| ebayhateluv | 01-30-2008 01:53 AM | |
| bigrab54 | 01-30-2008 02:27 AM | Thanks a lot for the info guys |
| Chris Hanson | 01-30-2008 06:36 PM | I wouldnt use proxies.. Makes you look real badd |
| bigrab54 | 01-30-2008 07:50 PM | Manually inputting a proxy? I dont know if this will work but here goes. If i manually put in a proxy and it always pin points me to the same location in the us when im from uk would i then be able to open a ebay account from the uk and and sell on this account in the us.
Surely if i use the same ip every time i log into my different accounts they wouldnt be able to suspend or trace me would they?. You wouldnt get banned if you created a account and logged in as the same ip if you had'nt been suspended before. |
| aspkin | 01-31-2008 08:32 AM | Same ip with your accounts? That'll most likely link you accounts.
Random proxies aren't the best solution either. EBay and Paypal have been know to limit accounts just because people login with a proxy. If anything, use AOL proxy. It's much safer. |

It's much safer. | yeah same ip with every different account. so every account has its own unique ip. how would ebay be able to link these accounts as long as i cleared my cookie trail? |
| Itzabreeze | 01-31-2008 08:45 PM | So if free Proxy's do not work, can you "buy them"?. Do they work? |
| mantisinc | 02-01-2008 03:51 PM | Setting up a secure proxy Okay, so it's a good idea to stick to 1 IP address per account, for when creating the account, editing details, etc.
How about if I was to create a secure proxy (with an ssl), keep it for personal use, and use it everytime I logged into that ebay account? I already run a few proxy sites, but if I was to hook up an SSL to them, then I could access ebay.
Obviously going to an internet cafe/library sorts the IP problem, but it means that everytime you want to access the account, or change settings on the account, you will need to do it from the same IP to be on the safe side. Would I be right in saying this?
So I thought if I were to create myself a secure proxy site, I could just login to ebay via that proxy on this PC, obviously after clearing all cookies. Then on that note, host other proxy sites on different IP's for each account I created/accessed? |

| Ballsack | 02-03-2008 03:38 AM | You're going to get your accounts suspended by using a proxy service. |
| belerim | 02-06-2008 01:20 PM | Some thoughts about proxies In my opinion using a proxy shouldn't be a problem - Almost all of the companies, internet cafes, libraries...etc are using proxy servers (their proxy server - not a public ones)
The problem is choosing the right proxy !
A proxy could be transparent (shows the original IP address and it is used just for changing the route) or non-transparent (hides the IP address)
Could be a public or private proxy.
Most likely the public proxies are used by hackers, Ebay-haters like you and so on - Once some illegal activities were detected on a proxy server the IP address is blacklisted.
Just to make it clear: The proxy server still works OK for internet browsing but it will raise a flag at Ebay when you're trying to get in.
So if you are using a public proxy chances are that someone else used it before for some nasty things and it's already blacklisted on Ebay.
I don't think there is any way to know if a proxy was compromised or not, that's why the results on testing them will vary from case to case. |
| silver_surfer | 02-07-2008 04:45 PM | From what I've been reading, the more experienced people advise against using a proxy, as ebay don't like it and find it suspicious. I think the best alternative is to use dialup when you actually need to log in to you're account which shouldn't be much time at all. |
| ivegotinfo | 02-07-2008 08:15 PM | ^ yep, dialup is the best method.
1. its 1 low price per month and you get multiple dial-in numbers (therefore multiple ip ranges)
2. you dont have to leave your house and rely on someone elses proxy.
3. ip range stays the same, doesent jump around, more respect from ebay/paypal |
| ivegotinfo | 02-07-2008 08:17 PM | if you can get a fully 100% anonymous proxy that has the same IP forever, is really reliable, and costs less than 2$ a month, go ahead.... also let me know if you do, till then im sticking with good old 56k |

how many IPs do they have anyways? |
| ebay_doing_my_head_in | 02-16-2008 07:01 AM | i always use "hide my ip" works great, and it gives u a list of ips to choose from, great for uk and us |
| powerbid | 02-22-2008 05:56 PM | hide my ip, is so slow that it takes ages to even open google |
| GreenBean | 02-22-2008 06:56 PM | Here is my confusion? Why is there talk of proxies? I thought it had been pointed
out that proxies are poxy and there are other ways to disguise IPs? |
| Back On Bay | 03-07-2008 01:51 PM | I have run proxies both free & paid.
It appears most proxy services have only about 10 - 100 or so ip addresses.
For everyone.
Ebay will generally let you register a account with a ip. proxy (Yes)
they know it's a proxy.
Generally you will be asked for a credit card when registering with a proxy.
The bigger problem comes in when you try to list using a proxy.
Being most proxy services are limited in their ip. addresses and I guess most
have already been black balled at ebay, if you don't reveal a real ip. they
will suspend your account shortly after you begin listing.
Within a few days at best.
What I like doing is using a high speed paid proxy for checking on accounts,
items etc. when I am not logged in.
However, I use a dial up to change my ip. when I log in.
Not only do dial ups give you a different legit ip. each and every time but
you can dial up any area coming from where ever you want.
and yes, their are dial ups out their who will mask your real address from a distance away
and even block pinging back to your computer. |
| RichieL | 03-14-2008 01:08 PM | Ip Proxy Server Utility Needed Guys,
Can anyone give me the name of a good UK proxy server utility
to hide my ip address as i have a static connection via a three
mobile network dongle that i can't change
Many thanks |
| aspkin | 03-14-2008 11:35 PM | Use UK AOL.
Other proxies don't work. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 11:33 PM. | |
