ebayaintstupid, That is a good website. I put it on my bookmarks. Thanks. It did not see through my aol. But I noticed if I don't sign into aol desktop it does see my real ip address. I have made that mistake.

Default It sees right through AOLs Desktop for me

Disabling it involves a couple of steps. But it doesn't appear to always block it.

Totally uninstalling Java makes it not work, but then all sites that depend on Java don't work.

What disturbed me about this was that Sun is not typically the type of company to support spying on people and this seems to have that and only that purpose.

I, also checked it out using AOL browser and it did not detect. The weird thing is that when I checked it using real IP without AOL, the IP was correct but my location was not even close.

Red face Proxy Problems

This entire thread really answers you. In that the use of a proxy is not so
recommended because of its variables. Basically the forum likes to present
HARD DATA to allow users to beat ebay. At this point, I do not feel that a
strong enough case for using proxies is presented.
I really would not like to read of any user coming back to the forum and saying
'I used xxstupid's suggestion of this proxy. But my ebay account is now Naru'd.'

Not a personal attack on you as I fight quite differently. A comment that this is
an area where any user must WATCH OUT. cheers

But, GreenBean, some of us have circumstances that require it. I live in a little town in northern Mexico - probably the only eBay seller here. I have to mask where I am or they can easily catch me.

The AOL seemed a great idea - but we only have broadband here as far as I know.

Now I am to understand that BROADBAND AOL DOESN'T WORK?

Wink There is An Answer

:D No, there is a solution for you even using AOL Broadband. Here's what I think

You are in Northern Mexico? So you are within say 200 miles of a USA town?
(just over the border....oops side track). Subject to getting this checked by
aspkin or Modee, why can you not manually set your IP to one in the USA?

Really I am not so great at the logistics here but I think you can work it.

Yes, GreenBean, I may have to do that. But I have a Static IP on this computer, and the technology to change it seems very challenging. Thanks for your input.

No. That is only in your mind that it is hard: you can change IP from static to dynamic. Look at it this way, 99.9% of your/mine IP problems can be answered by someone here.
As I said, aspkin & Modee will help. Just think YOU can do this.

Red face

GreenBean, and ebayaintstupid, there seems to be a way around this problem with AOL broadband.

I have my administrator account in Windows XP where I do things I don't want ebay/pp to know about, and have created various secondary user accounts for my fictitious ebay/PP accounts. And I have a separate AOL 7 account in each of these user accounts. When I use one of the secondary accounts I use ccleaner when closing it.

By going into the internet security preferences in these separate AOL 7 accounts, disabling java script, and choosing the maximum security setting, I have the Privacy software. Free Internet privacy software. Privacy protection software. Free privacy security software. Computer privacy software review. PC privacy software Online privacy software. Anonymous internet privacy software surfing. Anonymous surfi test showing "test failed because java is not enabled" and it only gives the AOL proxy IP.

Since these AOL 7 accounts are used only in the fictitious ebay/PP accounts in XP, which I use only for ebay/pp and auctiva, I hope it won't be a problem not having java enabled.

Or am I missing something? (Quite possible).

Default Proxy Servers - Do they really Work

Can anyone advice if the proxy servers work - I have tried changing IP address so many different times and different ways - even called comcast 5 times - they say it can't be done. So, is there anyone out there who has successfully used a proxy server to get back onto e-bay and keep there account going????

Yes to the proxy. I am feeling your frustration in your post and know just how you feel.

I use a cable modem w/router and the router makes it very difficult to change ips on the fly. With several eb accounts, I absolutely refuse to unplug, restart, etc. etc. to have the ability to sign-on each separate account. So...I have been using smarhide (freeware) successfully and have downloaded AOL desktop version, got a screen name and also successfully log-in w/eb using different ips. Have been using smarthide for 6-weeks now w/no problems and more recently started using aol.

AOL Proxy is the only proxy that works well. All the others are worthless for eBay.

Default But if you use AOL Proxy, uninatall the JRE...

or you appear to be able to see right through the proxy and AOL won't let you disable it.

Check IP address. IP check. Find IP address. IP finder. Java IP Test. Static IP address. Hide ip address. Change IP address. Changing IP address. Anonymous IP address.

Although I have not been able to get an answer as to whether the java client can feed this information back to the server.

Default For one, I don't use comcast...

for two, the description only half works. You cannot dependably get an address back once you release it. And if you have more than one EBAY account, constantly fiddling with your Cable Modem/Router each time you want to log in gets kind of crazy.

Default Tracking Via Old IP - without proxy server - how long to track???

I just got a new account set up and everything I thought straightened out. However, stupid me, I forgot to go into the proxy server (anonymizer) before signing onto ebay. I was signed on for all of about as long as it took to sign on -realize it- and sign off - (maybe 2-3 seconds).

Is this long enough for ebay to track my old ip and suspend my new account???

Thanks

Default Using a VPN and paying for it... is it worth it???

I am ready to start new accoutns on ebay. i read the full 35 page manual

but i have a question or two....

i noticed "smartVPN.com" has been removed from your list in your latest updates
why so???

and seeing as i want maximum protection from ebay seeing my IP address and linking accounts. is paying for a VPN still the best thing to do? along with deleting cookies with firefox?

i think its worth it to pay for the piece of mind if you are a serious ebayer

anyone know a way around this PLEASE share :D

If you're unable to change your IP address any other way, VPN works. It's optional though, just as in Dialup. And of course deleting cookies along with changing your IP is a must.

About smartVPN.com, Mik3 must have removed that; I didn't touch the VPN section that much.

I just bought strong VPN, but my question is that if it assigns you only one ip address and says it allows for anonymous surfing, when you go to ebay or paypal, does it show the same Static IP address every time that you log in. If that is the case, what is the point of the vpn if you are opening one account. I have never understood this one and have now purchased both witopia and strong vpn. Any help or comments would be appreciated to clear up my confusion.

Default noip.com

If I use something like no-ip.com would that stop ebay from linking accounts? TIA
