Default Opened case on item that hadn't shipped yet, excuse is son is in jail

So I bought a tablet for a niece to replace another one that went kaput, and I waited impatiently for it to show up in the USPS system after it was marked as shipped. 4 Days after, I sent email to seller asking if it was dropped off. No response. 1 day later opened a case. Seller responds today saying "this is [the tablet owner's] mom, he is incarcerated right now and I need to talk to him to get the password and wipe the tablet. Will try to talk to him tomorrow".

Didn't sound embarrassed or anything to give me this info, either.

Wow.

Possible but you can never know these days...keep the claim open while the seller sifts out the issue.

Ok looks like it was actually dropped off as she promised this morning. I just fervently hope this tablet is not the reason he is "incarcerated", if you get my drift.

OK, theoretical question, if he went to jail for stealing it but he is doing his time, does he get to keep the boodle and have his mom sell it to ,say, me? I doubt this is why he went but it doesn't mean it's not stolen. And unlike phones, no way to tell I think. I will immediately plant a google account on it and see if anything happens. Got till the 12th with the case.

No, He doesnt.
It would either be put up to recoup the restitution or it would be held in evidence.
The cops would be responsible for both

Did you pay using a credit card attached to paypal or did u use available funds?

Either way , the buyer is always favored but if u use a credit card u always can dispute the charge and get your funds back

To avoid problems and protect yourself always make payments with a CC attached to Paypal , out of 3 entities at least one you know is Legitimate and on ur side, the buyer you never know, paypal(a gray area) , so your best option pay with a CC and you don't need to deal with nonsense

I'm not worried about recovering my money. Just hate the hassle of going thru this sh!t all the time. I guess we forget eBay isn't like Best Buy; you don't buy the item, leave the store, and leave the drama behind.

Shop Amazon, it's the best and fastest, with Amazon fulfilled

The problem with eBay, is that they don't care about the buyer or the sellers, and sellers will only take so much

EBay is so stupid they will wait until a seller just received funds for say 30 sales and than suspend them

And than they expect that every seller will just not be angry that there business was shut down and that they cannot even get an explanation why

And on top of that , they expect the seller to keep on working and appease every buyer , even though they just shut down that sellers , in a lot of cases only income stream to feed there families

So the result is that , the seller now shocked and panicked that they don't know where the next dollar will come from , is not going to worry about eBays buyers and see who needs to be refunded and this and that

No they will just stop shipping orders out whether paid for or not and withdrawal all the funds from there account because that may be the last money that the seller will have too feed themselves and there family and move on

And you know what it's eBays own fault for conducting business like this and eventually this will catch up to them

And now with the new metrics, they really make it so once a case is open , the seller has no incentive to try and turn things around and make what could of been a terrible experience into something very pleasant and for that end up gaining a life long customer

But not anymore, right from the beginning , and it could be a buyer askin a question but eBay leads them to open a case for this

I honestly have no idea what they are doing , it is insanity, they just keep structuring things to make the worst possible experience ever for a buyer

I could never do it with one account, sellers that do not know stealth must be in a panic at the moment

I keep making accounts , the only way to do it is sell 10 items a month per account over many, many accounts to by pass all this BS

But some how they have this billion dollar company, so I'll continue to play the game , but as of buying , no way

Greenbean, just idle speculation, not looking for legal advice lol. Since it's not a 3g/4g device there is no real way for it to be reported. If I can login into a Google acct I'm good and Connor can finish his prison sentence in peace.

If a person goes to jail for stealing something, that item is kept as evidence for prosecution then returned to the owner...so highly unlikely your pad was involved - just saying
