| rockafella | 05-17-2012 12:50 PM | I have experience of importing for nearly 10 years.
I too have a couple of parcels stuck in customs, and I have maybe only once seen parcels clear customs and then go back into customs again, like is happening to a few in this thread aswell as me.
I had two parcels delivered on monday and tuesday with maybe a day or two delay, so it started for me only this week.
I thought they could be seized, but from this thread I can see the parcels are being identified for charges, and the delay is them having the charges applied.
I have seen customs have a purge a few times where they check to charge everything that goes through, and it seems that is what they are doing coupled with the fact the Olympics is around the corner and that is definitely going to affect the time it clears customs for the next few months.
If your parcel has charges applied you are home free, you don't pay customs direct, wait till the parcel arrives at your local depot, then ring up Parcelforce and pay the fees. |
| powerjam | 05-17-2012 02:05 PM | I hope so... how do thay calculate the charges? Are the parcels opened??? |

Is every parcel being charged just for the pleasure of having to sit in customs for 7 days lol? or are only the 'wrong' ones being charged? I have no idea what my seller put on the customs form, i could be in for a huge charge if he's put a low value on there. that's if it still doesnt get seized. I'll keep you guys updated as soon as i see a new tracking event. |
Oh and one other thing, which I personally think is very unusual is that on my EMS tracking info it says that my parcel was inspected at China customs before being sent over? It cleared their customs in hours but that doesn't neccessarily mean it will clear ours (UK's)? |
| powerjam | 05-18-2012 12:34 PM | Iv just had one of mine turn up in my local hub so rang them and i have a £47.92 charge which i paid by card and have been told it will be with me on Monday... im very baffled how thay have worked the charge out... but will know on Monday.... still got 2 more sitting in coventry thou |
damn....were these f a k e goods from china
no pressure to answer that but your not alone in any case |
| Callidus | 05-18-2012 03:57 PM | I swear I posted about charges having to be paid on the same sort of problem someone else had near the top of this page... Awaiting clearing customs twice with handed back to customs in between is always fees...
anyway why you messing with EMS,, 99% more chance of getting seized... another parcel of mine come through in 2 days from china via DHL ... forget ems! |

I sent 2 packages EXACTLY the same items from China, same box, same quantity. 1 via EMS, 1 via DHL. EMS comes through with 33.90£ of charges and DHL £9.76
Also I got the DHL one a week before EMS.. do the math people |
| snowben | 05-18-2012 08:45 PM | Ems or dhl??? do DHL have to be checked most of time?
as i use EMS most of the times.
in the last month i got a few parcels sent by DHL but when i received them they have all been checked by the customs.
just wondering does it happen all the time?
some products that i do are top brands.
i dont want customs hold the parcel then ask me for the proofs all the time.:humble::pout: |
| Callidus | 05-19-2012 02:20 AM | I have never had boxes checked mine clear customs really quickly!
Within 2 minutes of them being 'Processed' .
Had one come through fine again last night 200 pcs |
| snowben | 05-19-2012 06:12 AM | what sort of size r yr parcels,n also what r the weight /each?thx |
| powerjam | 05-19-2012 10:57 AM | Mine are all under 12kg and sized around 20cm x 20cm x 50cm (all max sizes)...
The invoicecsays 30usd & iv had my 1st parcel released with a £50 custom charge...! bt!!
Dont know how thay have come up with the figure but i wasnt going to argue... i payed up and should have my 1st parcel on Monday...
The rest are still being held awaiting customs clearence... |

| biggesmalls | 05-20-2012 04:43 PM | Mines been in customs 15 days now:mad: |
| plymgary | 05-22-2012 02:40 PM | Hi everyone,
I've been waiting for a parcel to clear for 11 days now so phoned customs this morning.
They told me that customs in Coventry and inspecting all parcels that are coming into China and as of this morning they were up to the ones that have 'Awaiting Customs Clearance' dated up until the 14th May.
Hopefully this will save some of you worrying. But, it is driving me mad....I need my items!!!! |

| GreenBean | 05-23-2012 08:40 AM | Welcome to the forum, Ant.
My usual advice is to not make contact with HRMC.
Research chemicals are a slightly different story however.
What company handled this for you & was it one that you had done business with before?:spy: |
| bunnyandfoxy | 05-23-2012 09:14 AM | USPS Worldwide Expedited (Snails are Faster) Ordered some parts for my boat on 30th April.
It took the supplier 7 days to ship them.

16 days since they were shipped it took 9 days to get from Chicago to Coventry by air (a passenger liner does it in 6 days!) now it is languishing in Customs. How can it take so long for a retail packaged item with the correct documentation and stated value to go through Customs in the 21st century?
Still don't know when to expect it. |
Thanks and yeah glad to be apart of the site , i havent made contact with HRMC but i did email PF to see whats taking so long and they replied saying its still with the Uk border agency guessing thats customs yeah ? Ive been getting the same product from the same company for about a year now no problems , parcelforce informed me that usually no parcels even go through customs but strict because of olympics now, it says exactly whats in the parcel on the front i think not sure , i have had one parcel opened about a month ago but the foil pack was still sealed and intact , inside is a documentation telling them that is Pentaerythritol must of read it and let it go through so i dont see a problem with it going through this time, i have had packages since they opened it that one time |
| GreenBean | 05-23-2012 09:43 AM | Pentaerythritol would be held whilst they confirm & check the legitmacy of the importation.:juggle:
Late April importation procedures were changed. Tendecy is for most items to be checked & checked & rechecked.
Your category will be under very close scrutiny even if it's for medical research. (? angina drug) |
Should be fine thats what its labelled as on the outside of the package and its comes with no problems everytime, it isnt illegal so i dont see the problem , ill just have to wait it out , :) been in the UK since last monday though im an impatient man haha |
| GreenBean | 05-23-2012 10:10 AM | It's them protecting the UK.
Bless  |
Least they could do is work at little faster though eh alot of not happy chappys with their slow ass procedures :P |

Cheers | I wouldn't be getting worried. Mine has been awaiting clearance since the 15th. I think the best we can hope for is that they'll hurry up and any customers we have won't cancel their orders in the meantime!
Parcelforce are useless when you contact them. I prefer Revenue and Customs 08450109000 and then I think it's option 3 and then 2? :) |
| Hubber | 05-23-2012 05:29 PM | I'm going through the same thing Hi everyone I'm new to this.
Thanks for your posts they've been helpful.
I think I'm being a bit impatient but my parcels don't usually take this long via EMS.
Parcel tracks:

From what I've seen in here some of you have been waiting longer than me.
This olympics is just going to slow down business for me. Fingers crossed on the customs charge then aye! |
New to these forums...just been reading this thread as I also have a package stuck in customs clearance. Thought I would let you all know - I just spoke to a very helpful man at HMRC...he said that they have had problems between Parcelforce and UKBA (mentioned possible staff shortages - who knows).
Anyway they have a backlog. He told me that that staff at HMRC have just received an email today (Thurs 24th May) saying that they are now up to processing packages which arrived on the 17th. Mine arrived on the 18th, and he said it would almost certainly be processed tomorrow (of course then there are the possibility of charges etc though, so might not actually receive it for a while...)
Anyway, by the sounds of it this is a temporary problem, but may go on for a week or two yet. Hope this helps. |
Mine was awaiting customs clearance on the 14th, so should it clear up this weekend? if there onto parcels from the 17th now or it said received and processed on the 18th so maybe still not got to mine ? ? |
| biggesmalls | 05-24-2012 12:17 PM | Your packages will be delayed for up to 15 days ,as customs are checking the paperwork on all the packages and charging when needed at the moment ,you dont need to worrie and phoning them will not make a difference.
Its not about the olympics its about packages not been charged for duty and because of all the bonus"s the uk border agenvy have been getting(3.5 million) and people moaning about it
The olympics will only effect people getting post in london |
Alright that is good news then im nowhere near there , mine is marked with value of 20$ and about 1.2kg in weight i shouldnt get charged much , if i even get charged hopefully :) |
Mine landed in the UK on the 13th and is still in customs! :( No sign of charging or anything though. It's weird. I will give it to Monday because then it will be exactly 15 days and then I will call them. I'm a bit hesitant to call them though because lets just say I haven't got the most legit parcel lol. But surely it would have been seized by now if it was going to be seized and charged by now if it was going to be charged? | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 05:54 AM. | |
