Default Should I let this go to an eBay open case?

Hi guys, I recently sold an item to someone and in my description it clearly listed that this item would come in an open generic box with only 2 accessories.
It was sold as a new item
The buyer sent an email complaining about how it came in an open generic box with only 2 accessories.......illiterate morons.

Anyway..they now want to return the item and it will cost me $200 to ship it back to USA since this was an international sale.
I even offered them $100 to just be done with it..still did not accept the offer (mind boggling).

So I am considering asking ebay to step in..the buyer did even confirm in our emails back and forth that they did read the description that it comes in a generic box..so they did admit that my description was in fact accurate

I just want to get some opinions..even if I do win this and escalate it..can't the buyer still leave a negative if they want to?
The item value is $460..and $200 is a lot to pay for return shipping for something that was the buyers fault.
So I am leaning towards asking ebay to step in....it just sucks that even if I win this case this buyer can still leave a neg.

Unless you have eB step in, buyer can always leave a negative.

Rsot, eBay would be stepping in though in this case to choose who the case is in favor of.
But even it it's been decided in my favor..buyer can still leave a neg?

I'd let it go to ebay. The buyer admitted it was his fault. Depends on how good your account is tho.....

No, if it's in your favor, they can not leave a negative.

I let ebay handle international problems UNLESS I made a mistake. Those global ratings are not very important and almost never do the people return the item.

Now if it is MY MISTAKE, I make good on it no matter how expensive.

This wasn't my mistake though.
Still haven't gotten a message from eBay which is a good sign..seems like it's taking longer to review this case.

This is on the buyer.... I think worst case scenario they make them ship it back...

Will one negative feedback really hurt your account?

My bad - your post: http://www.aspkin.com/forums/ebay-di...-question.html seemed to imply other things...guess I inferred too much from that.

It seemed you have neutrals though...that's not 100% positive feedback.

If the case is resolved in your favor, ebay removes the ability for the buyer to leave feedback and if they have already left feedback, it's removed.

Follow up on this case..heres the email I got from egay:
My name is Sunny from eBay customer support and I am contacting you in relation to a case filed for product xxxxxxxxxx as buyer has received the product which is not as described. I appreciate all your efforts as a good and responsible eBay seller with this case.

We're contacting you as buyer has received the product which is not as described from the listing and they wish to return the product for full refund. In this case, I recommend you to contact the buyer and try to resolve the issue for returns postage cost either by providing the returns postage label or the returns postage cost for returning the product to you for full refund as if the product is not as described, it is seller's responsibility to pay the returns postage cost.

Please be informed that we have now placed the case on hold for 5 days and request you to get the goods back from the buyer and refund them in full. If you don't resolve the issue within 5 days we'll close the case in buyer's favor with full refund and without returning the product to you.

If there is anything further we can do to assist you on this matter or anything we can do to help improve your experience here at eBay please let us know..

You sold it as "New" when it the item as I understand it was not in original box and was lacking accessories? You will lose this case if so.

There are variations of new. Brand new with tags. new without tags. New with defects. Etc.

Reatailer77, you need to add audio to your descriptions like this to eliminate your item not received problems. Aspkin found it and I instantly thought of you.

I know it may not help in the details of your actual dispute, but what I have begun doing, as a gift to myself, is being very generous (to myself) by letting things go in a way that closes up the case in the most likely way that the buyer will leave good feedback and move on.

It's hard to see $5 get wasted when you go back to the store in the mall to buy the pair of sneakers you saw yesterday and they're not on sale, and you end up paying $5 more. But it's REALLY REALLY hard to let go of $5 when someone is just taking advantage of you because they can, and pulling it out of your wallet. Those situations, I've found, began to cause me $100 worth of worry and frustration, and I'd focus so (too?) hard on not getting ripped off.

No matter how much injustice goes on in a transaction, nobody at Ebay is going to look at the case with as much concern and interest as you do. I used to follow through with emails and threats and explanations to ebay and/or the buyer and over time I realized that it's kind of the Wild West, and in the interest of keeping things streamlined and focused on moving forward, I would write off more and more. Sometimes it REALLY hurt, and sometimes it was easy to get over, but in the big picture I feel I'm better off taking a loss here and there because I could really get hung up on something because I was technically in the right. Or obviously in the right. But Ebay is not fair, and some buyers are absolutely stupid and/or crooks and I spend my time wrapping it up with a quick resolution and good feedback no matter what the cost.
