I just got hit by one of these again. Only sold 4 items on a 1 year old account. Worth about $60 and got the MC010 message. This is a Japanese eBay account, though ...so they have no way to do a background check. It's got to be something else. Maybe we have to sell 1 item, wait for feedback to come in, then list again.

Ok, I received this MC010 Notice - Verify identity last night. I called them this morning and the guy that I talked to was very nice to me. He asked me a few questions about my account (username/email/address/phone#) and I've got all those written down. Then he said he is going to input all my info in the database and he will ask me a few more questions to further verify my identity. He asked me multiple questions that I know nothing about since this is 100% stealth account. All my answers were "none of the above" of course, and I had a big smile on my face when he said that my account was reinstated and I'm good to go

Still, there's got to be a pattern we have to find out. There's no possible way, in my opinion, of eBay verifying every single new seller around the world. This happened to one guy on the forums from Turkey ..and then one of my Japanese accounts ...and a lot of US sellers from what I've seen, so it's got to be a worldwide thing. Imagine how many new sellers register on eBay every day? There's simply no way they can all be verified.

Could be the item you're listing that triggers it. *AHEM* Software...?

No software at all here. Mainly clothing. Some of them VERO items but no brand names in the titles. What I usually do is I buy 10-15 feedback and then start listing. Is that something you guys are doing as well? Or are you all starting with selling from '0' feedback? Maybe that's the trigger.
Personally, I have about 40 more accounts that are from 2008. I used 2 of them in the last days and they got hit with MC010. So it isn't happening just on newly created accounts, but accounts that just start selling.

By the way, what I mean with buying feedback is that I buy low cost items, between $2 and $12 to gain some feedback. Nothing below $2 and no eBooks. Some PC cables, iPhone cases, gardening tools, etc.
Maybe eBay is cracking down on that. Do we have a pattern here? Anyone else got the MC010 after doing that? Or did you guys start selling with 0 feedback?

I wouldn't know since I haven't listed anything in a while. There's this guy I'm watching right now who has 0 feedback, made his account 3 days ago and already sold 25 P90s within 3 days and has 3 Microsoft office up. I know it just has to be an Aspkin member.

Also, I've been studying 0 feedbacks or new sellers with a few feedbacks(5-10) and they all have listed big priced items in the hundreds-1 thousand and all seem to still be running fine.

Well, if I'm doing something wrong, then a whole bunch of other people are too. Because this post is full of people getting the MC010 identity verification message.
This is only happening on accounts I've never sold on before. I have a few dozen accounts ranging from 105 to 950 feedbacks and they're fine. It's just the ones I never sold on that are getting this now.
And I did notice one seller selling the same thing as I am, with 0 feedback and he's got like 200 items listed, on a 2 month old account.

Haha, this is a joke. I listed a $3 item about 5 minutes ago on a 2 month old account and got this: Quote:

And by the way, the $3 item was a sticker. No VERO item at all. Suspension and email came exactly 7 minutes after, so it's got to be automatic.

Nope, I'm on a DSL connection that allows me to change the IP as I wish. I can't change the first 2, but the last 2 ...such as from 123.123.10.50 to 123.123.88.20 ...so quite different. Also using different Windows accounts.

I've been on eBay for about 3 years now. I know pretty much all the do's and dont's. I use separate Windows account and separate flash cookies. All accounts have totally different information. Real addresses and real phone numbers (but not mine, obviously). I also use new cards every time and all accounts are PayPal verified. Something is wrong at eBay, I'm telling you.
It doesn't seem to be just me having the problem. Look at all the other people posting in this thread.

It's not just on my Japanese accounts, but also on US accounts. And the IPs of my US accounts are matched to the City and State, so it can't be that either. Have you tried creating any new accounts lately?
I noticed that this didn't happen to one of my US accounts that I started selling on in December 2009 and January 2010 ...and the only difference was that I phone-verified the account before I started selling. For some reason eBay asked me to verify the phone number there and I input the PIN. I never got bothered on that account and it's now up to 95 feedback. I also listed heavily there (20+ listings per day for 2 months) and never got molested.
Could it be that they're targeting non-phone-verified accounts?
