Just for the record people. I attached a Canadian cell number to my 1 and only main US account paypal. :O

But this account is like 9 yrs old.

Hey, I looked on Wal-Mart.com and the first one that popped up was $10, but im not sure rather they come with minutes or not. Do these phones come with minutes?? If anyone knows please tell me, thank you

99% of the time, yes....they come with like 10-20 mins.

I went up to Walgreens and the phone on sale for 4.99, they told me you had to get a plan for it.

Look for the ones that come with minutes for this price.

Tracfone did away with the older model of these and now these are on clearance most places.


Today, 18 for 18 with 10-1000. No 0-0s.

No it doesn't. After you go through the whole activation process the phone will say you have 20 minutes left to use on the phones screen, depending on which phone you get. I got a bunch of the $10 and $5 ones and this is what I got.

Not really, I don't have VBA's on any of mine.....I only add a real bank account once I feel that the accounts will not go down quickly.

Wow dial up? Like with a modem and a land line? I haven't had either in years. Is there some kind of modem emulator we can use or something? I think itd be over $50 a month for a landline plus earthlink or something.

I reckon this whole 0/$0 limit situation has arisen due to the scumbags that do a runner on accounts and don't pay their fees.

They'll have thrown together a project team to find identifying factors and to create a points based decision making program for giving out selling limits with a view to it reducing eBay's bad debt. Clearly GV will score negatively but will not be an absolute killer if other factors score well. Aspkin has already suggested it's a points based system. I'd fully agree with that.

I'd put money on it being a combination of ALL of the factors folk have suggested on the thread:-

Source of phone number used, VCC or Paypal for fees (if so what VCC), ISP, condition of Paypal when linked.

I have a close relative that does this exact type of work for a major UK bank's credit card application process. He also works on data sets to decide who should be offered credit limit increases. This issue is just an extension of that.

Just my thoughts and hoping they don't dump this on the UK site as well. ;)

The 0/0 limits get pretty annoying. Tried different setups and it looks like it's random or have to do with phones.

It definitely is not random or a glitch.

There are factors that will determine what limits you are given. It is just a case of finding a combination that "works".

Yep, it's talked about a lot throughout this thread.. trackfones are working well, along with other non-free/abused options.

Does tracfone recycle their number as well? Got 2 0/0 yesterday while using tracfone but luckily I was able to get them increase to 100/5000 and 25/1250, and not too lucky the 25/1250 got suspended 3 hours after 1st listing. Now I am scared to list items on the 100/5000 account.

I believe tracfone does re-use some numbers (once expired), but I agree with aspkin, there is possibly a new points system to determine how risky the account is. Phones are just a part of the new system

Got a couple of accounts yesterday with 0/0 and haven't had that ever. Been using g-voice mostly. I'm guessing after ebay asks for phone verification and sends 4 digit code it can determine somehow what type of carrier it is and set the limit. This hasn't happened with any of my other new accounts that i've used a regular t-mobile line with. Also i stopped using 1vanilla cards because the dates might have something to do with it to. been getting nothing but 2023 dates.

Update***

3/3 with G-voice. I realized that when i use a "high end" suburban address and same area g-voice number no issues arise. Guess is that the numbers from certain areas are recycled way too often leading to hits in the ebay system. They probably have some sort of database that has every single number that has gone through their system. And when a new account enters any of those numbers, BAM its a strike.
I determined this because i used random numbers from a large city and address from same area and got hit with 0/0 even with fully verified PP and ebay. Just a thought

Tracfones worked well for me for a short time. Now Im getting the same issue as gvoice where the verification txt just never comes thru. I can call and text anyone else but that dam ebay txt just disappears. Im not sure what to do now!

Hmm just made one 2 days ago with a tracfone and everything went well. Maybe try again in a few hours. I have had it so that the text never went out. I tried back a day later and the text went through, so maybe that will work for you.

So are we in consensus that a tracfone is the way to go as I am seeing mixed reports on it being flawless or still getting the 0/0? I don't really have a problem calling in and provide docs if thats the case. I guess i could just do it on all my accounts.

yes, tracfones work

although off topic, I have not had many tracfrones verify PP's mobile verification for over a month. I think 2 have received PP's text. on 30+ accounts

Yeah that seems to be hit or miss sometimes. Thinking of going back to some accounts that did not get the text and trying again to see if it will get it.

I usually verify tracfone with a call rather than a text, this has never failed me.

you guys may be getting confused again. We are not saying theres any problem using tracfone for verifying ebay. it works great! it always has. Rarely will it get a number that was abused on ebay (for now)

it just no longer works well for verifying the paypal text. but its not really a necessary step anyways, its only for us obsessive compulsive stealthers who like 100% verified accounts

Just turned a 2 year old buyer account into a seller account - sold one item then after it sold, limits came up as 0/0 with need to call in to speak to specialist. Odd - analyzing now

You cranked up an buyer's account.

Turned it into selling account.

Ebay have been allowing a minimum of one item to be sold.

Then they give you 0/0 limits.

It's a type of soft limit that you should be able to make go away.
