Instead of messing around with your router, mac addresses and such just buy a 3 mobile internet dongle. You can get 5gb for £15.99 and everytime you connect to the dongle you get a new IP.

My Sky is dynamic however I have heard of some people getting a static service with them too. Give them a ring and ask if you can be switched to a dynamic service.

Or ofcourse and TheGenuis states there is the option of a dongle there pretty good too, new IP each time.

I've been reading a few forums and people seem to think that Sky are slowing switching over to Static IP's to control our speeds. I have noticed a huge decrease in speed, backed up by a speedtest, so it may be true.

I'm going to leave them soon anyway. Dongle/Mobile broadband coverage round here is OK, but not quick enough for my liking.

Anyone got any suggestions. A provider that I can easily use a new router with (Sky make this very difficult), nice speeds, and aren't offline 1/2 the time?

BT are kicking it for me at the moment with regards to dynamic IPs and its real quick to get new ip - I made myself a program resets my BT ip all automatically and its done within about 15 - 20 seconds with just 1 double mouse click.

I have to say BT are kicking it for me too I get through up to 30 ips a day and I just press a button on the router.

I pay £28 per month and that's free calls and unlimited B/Band

Don't see any need to change right now

Sky are not using static IPs they are just very sticky, as they are switching to something called MER from PPPoA.

If you use your own Router then you can continue just switching on and off as normal, as only the sky Routers are switching, while other Routers seem to be staying with PPPoA.

But it is supposed to be against Sky rules to use another Router but a lot of people are, as their Routers are crap.

If your sky is loosing speed you should contact them, as they have different speeds for different users, by what I heard, you have to tell them you are a gamer to get the fastest speeds.

I have found that I have to switch router off on at peek times to get a new IP, as any other time it just sticks.
So you have to switch between six and eight in the morning, eleven to one in the afternoon, or five and seven at night.

Not great but was the only way I found to do it and it just means splitting the work on accounts through the day and days. So work on three accounts one day and then three accounts the next and then the next.

I've never had a problem with Sky when resetting my router it gives me a new unique IP every time, so it maybe true there switching to Static IP can anyone elaborate if this is true. We need some evidence!

It seems to depend on what routers you have as some routers have changed already in their last update and others are still using the PPPoA system

From what I have been reading the new D-Link and another router have already been updated but others like the Netgear have yet to be updated.

That is why I was asking what routers people had on the last post to see if this is backing up what others were saying.

My Router is a new D-Link and has the update.

I've got a D-Link running the new firmware.

Left my router off overnight, turned it back on, and hey presto, same IP!
