Wrong.

amazon is not asking for the SSN. Dont confuse the terms OR requirements.

This user has been asked for a TIN and that's different from the SSN.

I have the same problem Amazon now wants TIN number for any seller who sells more then 50 items in one year. Anyone who sells 200 items, or had $20,000 in sales during a year is automatically notified they need to file a return.
My stealth accounts have slight variation of my name. I dont see how I can proceed to sell (or for that matter anyone with a stealth account) without going over the 50 item limit.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. I really hope there is a way around this formidable problem....

To explain, them(pp or amazon) saying to post your TIN is basically them asking for either SSN, TIN, ITIN, EIN whichever you use.

Each means different things, Please consult your tax advisor what the meaning is for each and how each would be best for your needs.

doing a simple online search as most want to do is not what I mean. That will not get you what you need to understand.

Give them want they want or you will be constantly dealing with this every time you open an amazon account. Time to start creating quality amazon accounts, selling quality products if you want to last on amazon.

You get it from the IRS. You should talk with a CPA to figure out which option you want to go with for tax purposes. Such as DBA, LLC, C Corp etc...

Or while I personally have not gone this route it is said that if you sign up with Amazon as a non US citizen then you will not have to provide the number to them. But then they automatically will 30% of your sales to give to the IRS for their cut.

Citizen or non us citizen you still have to provide the number or w8ben something like it. You have to apply for that form to prove you are a non US citizen. Which required a non US passport to prove it. It is not as easy as some are saying it. Amazon will not automatically hold your 30% because you are a non US citizen. if you are a non US citizen you have to apply under diff tax program and so on n on n on... There is lot more to it. Do your research. If this is that easy every single person will be doing it. Amazon is not reponsinle for paying your taxes to IRS. Best to consult with a CPA and you can only have one TIN per person. If you have 5 accounts you have to apply to amazon to get multiple seller account approval. Which they only do it for big companies. I have done a lot of reading.
I have 4 stealth accounts going

You think CPA's are expensive, try tax lawyers when you get in trouble for not using a CPA, $500/hour.

I would pick the CPA for $125/hour, but you decide what you want to do. I would rather pay up now then pay more in the future.

Look around for a cheaper CPA for try to negotiate his price, it worked for me.

Default Amazon TIN

Surely the Amazon Ghost Book has to be revised now??? Because how do Stealth Accounts compete with the IRS. There is no way you can make multiple Stealth Accounts and keep them all under 200 items a year. If you sell small items like I do I would have to create 100 Stealth Accounts to even turn a profit that's worth it?? Maybe the Administrators will be able to shed some light on this one or we are DOOMED!! at least as far as Amazon goes.

P.S I dont think Paypal is this bad. I never thought I would see the day when I compared the two and its look like now Paypal is winning over Amazon!!

Paypal is still way worst for most of us. If you had problems with paypal before you can expect problems until you stop using them.

It was announced in 2009 these tax requirements were coming.

Now, months before they are happening, some of you have done nothing to resolve your problems.

For the time being search the forum for the paypal posts on 1099 & EIN. See what glimmer of other options might be there.

If you are making money, then you have a duty to pay TAXES. See a tax professional who can help you ensure you comply with all IRS requirements.

Default Amazon tin

Greenbean I don't think its that simple. Now I just went to the page Amazon supplies for this TIN number-didn't finish the process though...but Amazon wants you to go through an "Interview Process" in order to give them this TIN number. They warn you that before you start the "Interview Process" if they find that any of your information (assuming they are going to do some kind of check) is incorrect then you are Banned! Also before you start you have to Electronically Sign the form. So do we sign under our Stealth Name?? Can't do that or will be in a world of trouble so what do we do?? I;m not sure but is this the same process for PP?

You are right Kev59 its not that simple. Making stealth account is a diff thing as we can provide info and get away with it, but now IRS is involved and that means a lot of trouble. I have provided my SSN on two other sites that I sell on with real account and its all good. I think withdraw all your funds before DEC 26th. I am going to take my money out from my stealth accounts next month and close my accounts. I am also asking help from my CPA friend who is actually free ( its sweet). this trouble is not worth it unless new Ghost guide brings some legit solution.

Legit Solution = Get yourself a EIN or TIN from the IRS

Ok trying to make people understand....how to you get around doing the electronic signature in your Stealth Account. I do not want to sign a Stealth Name that will be given to the IRS?? I do understand the a TIN is easy to get but no one knows for sure if Amazon as they said they would definitely do a "CHECK" will compare names with the Stealth Name & the TIN.
