The 80 buck person is a cheapass looking for a bargain, the $4000 person is emotionally invested in the item and doesn't want to feel like a moron or feel like he got ripped off. Of course, the 4K person probably also actually READ the listing thoroughly and knew what he wanted, but that's sort of besides the point. It's a very real psychological phenomenon and why marketing experts insist small businesses shouldn't compete on price alone.
